After the uneventful rest of the day, Mark and I headed towards his house for our usual after school ritual.
"So, you and that Kay guy, huh?" Mark asks while peddling slower to my pace.
"What about Kayden and I?" I asked. Silently hoping he would stop there.
"Well, are you two dating?" Mark asks while showing a face of uncomfort. I guess he doesn't like talking about these things.
"What! No! No, no, no. We are friends." I concluded then looked at the street sign, seeing his house come into view.
"Right." He said then left it there. I sighed and looked down for just a slight second then just felt air. I hit the ground and hissed in pain. I had plowed over a curb and somehow injured myself as usual.
I looked down at my hands and knees and saw blood surfacing. I started to feel the tears come. I'm such a baby...
"Ow, ow, OW!" I yelped while trying to get up.
"Whoa! Slow down there. Just sit on the curb." Mark instructed. I inched my bottom onto the curb and examined Mark, distracting myself from the pain.
"Ok, Cam. Do you think you can walk?" He asked. I shook my head no and internally sighed.
"Ok, hop on." Mark said while bending his back towards me. I grabbed onto his back as he wrapped his arms around my legs for support. He then grabbed both the bikes and walked them along. I was amazed.
"Man, your like Superman..." I whispered to myself but Mark heard it. He chuckled.
"At your service, my lady." He responded. We laughed and arrived at his house. He parked the bikes out in the driveway and we walked through the backyard gate to his porch. He set me on a lounge chair and went inside for some band aids.
One thing I love about Mark's backyard is that the fence is low enough that I can see Dakota's backyard and watch him when he is outside, which is almost always. I casually looked over and saw him coming out the backdoor with his dog, Titus. His dog was this huge Brown retriever that I grew to love. It was true when they said it was Dakota's best friend.
I watched as Dakota threw Titus' tennis ball around and I sighed a dreamy one. So cute...
I then heard Mark clear his voice and I was brought from my trance. I looked at Mark and he smiled and shook his head.
"I'm sorry Cam, but he won't notice you if all you do is watch him." He said while sitting on the same lounge chair as mine.
"Even if your stare is as vivid as a hawk's and it burns you." He joked while I hit his arm playfully then winced from my hand.
"Oh, here." Mark said while pulling out some bandage and wrapping my knees up and my putting band aids on my hands. As he did it, I sensed a set of peepers on us and I looked over at Dakota's yard to see...Titus staring at us and Dakota dribbling the soccer ball around. I sighed. Dang...thought it was him.
"There. All better." Mark said while staring at me and smiling. I smiled back and looked at the band aids to see cute little carrots and bunny's on them. I laughed.
"Cute band aids." I commented while poking Mark's cheek. He swatted my hand and glared at me in a playful way.
"I'm going to get you." He said while I inched away then jumped up quickly and ran around his yard with his chasing me. We laughed and I started towards the swing set but I tripped on some upheaval grass and face planted onto the ground while Mark doggy piled me.
"DOGGY PILE!" He yelled out then pretty much body slammed me.
Oh. My. Lands.
"I can't breathe YOU FATTY!" I yelled out.
He just laughed and squished me more.
-Dakota's POV.- (OOO!)
I watch as Cam runs around Mark's yard, then face plant into the yard. I try my best to hold in a laugh.
"DOGGY PILE!" I hear then see Mark body slam Cameron more into the ground. I wince. That probably hurts.
"I can't breath YOU FATTY!" I hear Cam breath out and Mark laugh. I chuckle lightly and go back to my soccer.
Ever since I was a little boy I've known Cam. We have never actually talked but I always knew where she would be. She just had a schedule of stuff that she did regularly. Like, for instance, today she showed up at Mark's house in the backyard. I knew she would be there so I threw on my exercise clothes quickly and pulled Titus out with me.
I'm not a stalker. I swear.
I just can expect the expected.
I watch from the corner of my eye and see Mark and Cam in a heated stare, on the ground where Cam fell. I get a bit jealous and start to mess with Titus to bring there attention somewhere else. I kick the ball to Titus and he starts barking and chewing on the ball, then nudges it back to me. I take a small glance in Mark's direction and see him and Cam on the swings now, talking.
Sometimes I think, what if I actually talked to Cameron when I first saw her. What if we hung out all the time. What if we became best friends forever. Would I be in Mark's place right now? Would I be in Mark's place which is him trying to get out of the friends zone?
-Cameron's POV.-
"So what do you want to do?" Mark asks me on the swings. I shrug and look at Dakota. He seems to be thinking hard cause he keeps kicking the ball lightly. I get up and start towards the gate, with Mark following.
"I'm going to head home. I have some choirs to do." I reply then get my backpack and hop on my bike.
"Oh ok. Well, I guess I'll see ya tomorrow morning then." Mark said while waving at me. I wave back and start peddling towards my block.
Man, was that weird or what? Once I fell and Mark fell on top of me, We had a weird connection. He stared at me and I stared back. I almost got lost in his eyes, but snapped to my senses when I heard Titus barking.
I don't know what that was but It was certainly weird.
