"I'm so sorry, Cassie. The kids and I are out of town." I could hear the distress in my sister's voice.

"It's fine. I'll find a hotel for now." I tried to sound composed but frankly, I was anything but.

"How'd they go bankrupt? I thought Terry's Diner was doing great."

"Listen, Piper. I must go and find out what I'm going to do. I'll tell you once I find a hotel."

"I'm so sorry I'm not there." She whispered and hung up. I finally dried up my tears as I parked in front of another hotel.

"We're out of rooms, dear." The clerk told me, looking very busy. Getting back into my car, I was beginning to lose the last bit of hope I had. First I lost my job, then I got kicked out of my shared apartment with my now ex-boyfriend. Will I have to live in my car?

It was nearing seven o'clock. I had to get some caffeine in my body if I'm going to be hotel hunting for the rest of the night.

I entered the bustling coffee shop with a heavy heart. I remember writing in shops like this with my best friend, Allison. She actually went places with her writing but I didn't get into it too much. Ally got a book deal and moved away. Sure, I missed her but I was happy for her. Now my heart breaks. What if I tried like Ally did?

I clutched my backpack with everything I owed and headed to the short line. Weird, why was the line so short if there were so many people?

"I'll have a regular coffee, please." I requested to the barista.

"Would you like to try our peppermint-"

"No thanks, I'm on a budget." I laughed softly. I paid the amount and waited at a tiny table. All the tables by the small stage were taken. Music filled my ears, I was in my own little world and never noticed.

The man had a beautiful voice, almost nostalgic. I remembered a friend I had in high school who sung just like him. He moved to Nashville hoping to make it big. My eyes widened.

"No, it couldn't be." I gasped. But I had to know. I strode to the stage knocking softly passing by some standing people.

"Watch where you're going." A girl glared. "Don't bother Chris. Wait here like the rest of us."

"Chris?" I gasped. She gave me a nasty look.

"Don't tell me you're not a fan of him."

"Thank you, this is all I can sing for tonight." Then, he looked at the girl and me. "Please, don't-" He froze as he saw my face.

"Is that you, Cassie?" He sounded surprised.
