(A Day Later)
I knocked on my classroom's door and opened it. The teacher frowned at me. "Miss Hatsune, you've decided to join us have you?"
A few kids sniggered. This was when I noticed everyone was in different seats. New seating arrangements.
"Would you care to tell us all why you're late Miss Hatsune?" The teacher smirked, clearly enjoying embarrassing me.
"I.." I whispered. "I s-slept in."
'No, my mother kept me in that cursed room and didn't let me out until half an hour ago.' I thought. 'At least she didn't keep me standing the whole night. But I hurt like hell.'
"That's no excuse. Anyways, sit down." Sighed Sensei.
"Where do I sit?" I asked.
"A little unorganised are we?" The teacher hissed. "You shall be sitting next to Miss Megurine from now on."
I gave a nod, relieved, and quietly made my way over with my cheeks flushed red. One of the kids stuck out there foot and tripped me up so I squealed and fell. After I gathered myself with the whole class watching, I put my bag by my desk and quietly sat down, burying my face in my arms.
"Have you finished yet Miss Hatsune?" Sensei said. I didn't reply. I silently wept. "Fair enough, now, to continue off the lesson."
"Miku? You okay?" Luka whispered when the Sensei turned round. I ignored her. "Miku?"
"MISS! MIKU'S CRYING LIKE A BABY!" Snorted one of the boys.
"She is not!" Defended Luka. I brushed my eyes gently and sat up properly.
"Please, be quiet." Said our teacher, and continued to show isntructions. I looked and focused when Luka's hand slipped itself on mine. I looked at her, feeling a weird feeling in my stomach.
"What's the matter?" She whisperd. I shook my head.
"It's not relevant." I whispered back. I focused on the lesson, but as her hand properly held mine, I couldn't seem to have any controlling in stopping my fingers interlacing with hers. It felt comforting.
"What happened on the phone yesterday?" Luka asked.
"I smashed a plate and panicked." I lied.
"And that's why I heard yelling?" Luka asked, though she didn't sound like she believed me.
"Yeah." I whispered.
(Time Skip To Lunch)
Luka and I walked out of class. We walked to the roof, where Luka opened her handbag and handed me a neatly wrapped red gift. "This is what Teto wanted to me to give you Miku."
I nodded and hesitantly unwrapped it as neat as I could. There was a little necklace in a box. It must have cost a fortune. There was a little note that read "Stay Strong Miku! ~Teto :p".
"That's so sweet of her." Smiled Luka. she pulled her sleeve up. "Teto got me a bracelet. She said she couldn't get us any souvenirs so that's why we got these."
She must be rich." I whispered. I suddenly glanced at how high up we were.
"You wanna go sit by the ledge to eat lunch?" Luka asked. Hesitantly, I nodded. We both sat down on the parapet. I remembered the day when sat facing the ground, ready to jump. When I first met Luka..
I pulled my scruffy backpack on my lap and unzipped it, trying to make sure Luka didn't see that my snow globe was in there. I suddenly face palmed. I didn't pack lunch.
"What's up?" Luka asked.
"I didn't bring anything." I moaned. Luka smiled. "I have spare food if you wanna share?"
"Are you sure?" I asked. Luka nodded and put her arm round my shoulders for comfort. It was pretty uncomfortable...But I liked it.
We shared Luka's meal (Me refusing to eat the tuna, I really hated it) and talked all the way. Luka suddenly remembered something. "Miku, my dad invited you to stay the night on Friday. Are you up for it?"
"W-Really?" I asked.
"Yeah, he really likes you." Luka grinned. I could escape Mother for a day..But it was coming home that would frighten me.
"I'll go." I said without thinking twice.
"Awesome." Luka exclaimed.
(Time Skip Five Days I know I'm annoying)
I got in the house and ran to my room. It was Friday so I didn't have school. I only had my notepad, phone, snow globe and pencil case in my bag. For once I didn't have homework so I had no books with me. I grabbed my grubby blue rabbit and hugged it before stuffing it in. It was babyish, but it was one of the few things I had left to remind me of Father. I called it Scruff from a young age and it didn't change since.
I went into the drawer's of my mother's room, where she slept, knocked out. Probably from the drugs or the alcohol. I saw the cleanest pair of pyjamas I had were a pair of blue and teal chequered bottoms and a white and blue shirt with a turquoise star on them. Then I chose a simple pair of jeans, hoodie and shirt for the morning. I'd started taking things to the launderette. It was a lot better.
I took those in my bag, and then my toothbrush. Then as I crept out my mother woke up. In panic I ran out into my room, snatched my phone charger, and made a run for the door, but Mother soon caught up with me.
"PIECE A SHIT!!!" She screeched in my face, punching me hard across the face and dragging me to the room. I protested, my bag on my back, and clung to the staircase in fear. Mother hit and kicked me. I ended up with a nosebleed and a hurting jaw, but I managed to escape the house. I ran and ran, but stopped as I reached the bridge. I watched the crashing rivers below me. I felt my body making me stand on the edge and trying to get me to jump. Myself wasn't enough encouragement.
"Just end it all now Miku. You don't have to suffer anymore." Depression smirked, hanging over me. "If you truly wanted this you'd take my word."
I started crying at this moment. "I want an answer. I want my old life back."
"This is the best thing you'll get." Depression insisted. "Jump. Don't make me make you."
I edged closer, when I fingered the necklace around my neck. I remembered Luka. And Teto. How much pressure and sadness I'd put on them if I did this. I wanted it so badly. But maybe I could hold myself back for now.
I jumped down and wiped my tears, calming down, than ran all the way to Luka's house. I ran till I had no breathe in me, then I walked. Then I ran again and got to her front door, where I knocked. Luka herself opened the door and smiled.
"Miku!" She giggled. She wore a flowery yellow, pink and lilac dress with a small white cardigan and black tights. She looked dazzling. "Why are you still in your school uniform?"
I shrugged. "I was excited to get here."
"Haven't you got anything more relaxed to change into?" Luka asked. I shook my head.
"I have clothes for tomorrow and pyjamas." I sighed. "I'm ridiculous, I know."
"How about I give you something of mine?" Luka offered. "A few of my clothes are getting too old for me. Maybe they'd fit you."
"You don't have to." I demanded.
"I don't mind and I frankly don't care." Luka replied, taking my hand and leading me inside.
