I sat on a mat in front of my mom. She meditated. My grandmother had taught her how to meditate. No matter how hard I tried, I could never focus enough to do it.
"Mom?" I whispered.
"Shh." She replied, not opening her eyes. I sat there, biting my lip. Suddenly the door burst open. My Papa stepped through with my three younger siblings in tow. My younger brother, Ketu, and my twin sisters, Jae and Avani. My mother opened her eyes, sighing. She was very much pregnant, and needed the peace and quiet sometimes.
"Momma, momma! Look what Papa found!" Jae screeched. I stood up, and help a hand out to help Momma up. She took it, and stood up.
"What honey?" She asked the hyper-active 5 year old.
"A Rabbaroo!" She said, jumping up and down. "Can we keep it Momma? Can we?" She asked.
"Calm down Jae." Ketu said, coming to her, and pulling her away. He was 10 and very understanding of my Momma's need for space. Avani peeked out from behind Papa, who was holding an adult Rabbaroo, holding a baby Rabbaroo.
"Two?" Momma asked.
"We were thinking we'd give this one to Harua." Papa said, passing the pet to me. I held it gently.
"I'll name her Pella." I said. I looked hesitantly at Momma. "If I can keep her that is." Momma sighed. That was all she seemed to do these days.
"If you take care of them and clean up after them I don't see why not. I'm going to be preoccupied with the baby soon, I can't be watching two rabbaroos as well." She said. I nodded.
"Of course Momma. I'm fourteen. I can handle a little pet." I said smiling down at the rabbaroo I held in my arms.
"I'm naming mine Boing." Avani said quietly. Her and Jae were complete opposites.
"I like that!" I said. She smiled at me.
"Let's go outside and practice bending! Wanna come Papa?" Ketu asked.
"Of course! I'll help you with Jae with her earth bending while you and Avani practice your airbending, how does that sound?" He asked. The three kids agreed and raced outside.
"Harua would you like to come and watch?" He asked. I had never learned to earthbend or airbend like my siblings. I was a non-bender. The only one in my family. I looked over at Momma.
"I'm going to take a nap, you go have fun sweetheart." She said. I nodded, and raced outside to find my siblings. I looked around my large backyard.
"Psst." Someone said. I looked around.
"Ketu?" I called. No answer. I walked to a bush.
"Psst!" The person called again, from the other side of the garden. I walked over, and peaked in the bushes. There was a boy in the bushes.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I'm Ju'yin. Im from Republic City. I have to warn you. You need to leave. Now." He said.
"Why?" I asked, the rabbaroo hopping behind me.
"I'll explain later. Go." He said. I looked around. My youngest sister was standing there.
"Who are you talking to?" Avani asked meekly.
"No one sweetie. I'm going to leave. Don't tell Momma and Papa. I'm going to take Pella." I said. Avani stood there frowning. She took out a small white hair clip from her hair, and ran to me.
"Here. Don't forget to come back. Mommas gonna have the baby soon and we need you." She said.
"I won't. Sometimes I forget you're only six Avani." I said, and hugged her. She smiled up at me.
"I love you Harua."
"I love you too Avani." I said, and ran.
