O M N I S C I E N T

Everybody sat soundlessly in the living room. No one could think of anything to say after what they'd just been told.

Nina had finally let the cat out of the bag that Reggie wasn't Aaliyah and Alan's father. Their father was found floating in the Hudson with three bullet wounds. One in the back, one in the chest, and one right between the eyes. The case is still cold. All anyone knows is the fact that it was personal.

Reggie had stepped up and said he was going to take care of his brother's children. He played house with Nina up until he decided that it was okay to molest his niece.

It seemed as if he had it all planned out. He began to supply Nina with heroin laced weed before he eventually just gave her needles. Whenever she was high he was a bug in her ear, telling her that her five year old was a slut and she didn't deserve to be treated properly. With that came the abuse, both physically and mentally.

When Reggie was sent to prison, Nina was lost without the drugs. She had used all of  the stash she had. Even during the withdrawals she wasn't in the right state of mind. She blamed her daughter for her going through the chills and the shaking and the vomiting. If she hadn't 'made Reggie leave them' Nina would've still had her regular supply. Eventually, Nina was able to find her own dealer so she began purchasing her own drugs. Nothing was able to change, up until a few months ago.

Nina had ran into her mother, whom she hadn't spoken to in the last 13 years while out looking for her next fix. Aaliyah hadn't even noticed, but her mother hadn't been home over the last month and a half. It took a little convincing, but Nina allowed her parents to help her get clean. They checked her into a rehabilitation center close to their house so that they could monitor her as she worked to get better.

When everyone, including Nina, thought she was ready she returned home. She returned two days before Aaliyah's birthday while she was gone at Sydney's.

Nina had only been home for about two hours when her bedroom door opened. Instead of seeing her daughter who she couldn't wait to apologize to and rebuild with, there was the devil himself. Reggie.

After many cries for him to leave, Reggie was tired of hearing Nina's voice. He knocked her out then put his plan into place. He began injected her with the poison yet again. He needed her as doped up as possible for this to work. When she finally regained consciousness she was handcuffed to her headboard still high off the heroin. Reggie began to question her about Aaliyah's life, which is how he knew where to find Alan.

Aaliyah sat there, completely numb. Of course she was relieved to know that her mother's words were never her true feelings, but she was still wondering why her? She hadn't been a bad child. She kept her room clean, she ate her vegetables, she always went to bed on time, she did everything that could've been asked of her at the moment.

"Yaya, stop that. I can what's running through your head by the look on your face. This isn't your fault mamas. It's Reggie's fault of course, but it was also mine. I'm truly sorry from the deepest part of my soul that I let all of this happen. That man is just evil. Back when he used to run the streets they called him Diablo. I'm so sorry for even allowing him in your life. It was stupid, I just figured because you were his brother's children yall could connect with your father through him.  I'm so sorry"
