Alaina Lashai Allie is an inquisitive fourteen year old girl who has been having issues at home and with her life in general. She sees a therapist who tells her that communicating with someone who also has problems can help her with her own. Alaina sends continual letters to a never-replying pen pal of sorts about her strange and slightly unpleasant life in hopes of receiving a letter back. Little does she know, her "pen pal" is dead and all of her letters are thrown out immediately. Alaina sends letters for years as it helps her get through her problems and even though she gets no replies, she has a deep trust within this person.
