London. 10:39. Coffee shop.
Phil pushed open the coffee shop door and stepped inside. His glasses fogged up, so much that he couldn't see. He took them off, looked at them and realized that he had forgotten to put in his contacts this morning. Shrugging his shoulders, he thought "oh well. I'm just getting coffee."
He pulled out one side of his blue checkered shirt, wiped his glasses and put them back on his nose.
While walking to the counter he looked at the menu and thought about which coffee he should get. "Cappuccino? Nah, had one yesterday. Latte? Hm, no. Mocha? Oh yeah, that sounds..."
Suddenly there was a thump and the next thing he saw was a woman standing in front of him, coffee spilled all over her coat. "Oh no. I'm so sorry!" Phil said quickly, worried about what the woman would say. He didn't want to get screamed at. "Damn. I'm always so clumsy.", he thought. He slowly looked up to the woman's face and was surprised to see a smile.
"No, I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where I was going! Are you ok?", she said with a soft voice.
Startled by the woman's calmness and gorgeous smile, Phil just stood there, trying to find the words he wanted to say. "Um... no really. It was my fault, I was looking up at the... the thing, where the ... coffees...", he stuttered out in an awkward way.
"Menu." , the woman said, smiling again, laughing a little at hat him for forgetting the word.
Not knowing what to do next, Phil said, "let me get you a new coffee... and I'll pay for the dry cleaning."
"Oh no, that's fine. This coat is so old, I was wanting to throw it out any day now. So you just made it easier for me. Thanks.", she said with a giggle. "But a new coffee would be nice."
That smile. Phil couldn't stop looking at her. She was beautiful. Her hair was the color of the ocean. Her eyes were a green he had never seen before. After noticing he was starring, he shook his head and said, "What were you drinking?"
"A green tea latte.", she answered while walking up to the counter again.
That sounded good, so Phil ordered two green tea lattes.
"Is there anything else I can do", Phil said after they picked up their order at the other side of the counter.
"You could distract me from working", she said, laughing. "I don't really want to. You have time to talk for 30 minutes?"
"Sure!", Phil said without thinking about it. But he didn't really have somewhere to be. He would have sat down and scrolled through tumblr while drinking his coffee anyway.
They walked to a table near the window and sat down across from each other.
"What do you work?", Phil said trying to do small talk. When he realized that it maybe was a bit rude to ask her that right away, she already pointing to her laptop she was holding and said, "I'm a writer. Not a very successful one, but I'm working on it." She scratched her head and smirked.
"Oh cool. What are you writing?", Phil said, taking a sip of his green tea latte, burning his tough, but trying to hide it so she wouldn't notice.
She noticed. But just smiled at his attempt of hiding it and said, "A novel. It's a story about a girl and her dog going on adventures around the world. A bit mainstream I know, but that's the only thing that came to mind while I was thinking about what to write."
Phil smiled and said, "That sounds great. I would read it!"
She took a sip of her drink and smiled again. She smiled a lot. Phil liked that. She looked out the window and Phil took the chance to look at her. She was wearing dark boots with bright orange flowers on them, ripped tights and a pastel blue dress. He could see part of a tattoo peeping out of her boot, but he could make out what it was. The whole coffee shop smelled of coffee, of course, but he was close enough to the woman to smell her perfume. She smelled like oranges and cinnamon, spicy. Her ocean blue hair was tied up in a ribbon that had the same color as her dress. She had piercings, two golden rings in her right ear, stretched ear lobes with black plugs in them, a golden ring in her nose and lip. They looked so natural on her, you wouldn't notice them if you don't look at her properly. Her nails were painted in, again, the same color as her dress. She wore golden rings on her feminine fingers. She looked back at Phil and he tried to look away before she saw that he was staring at her, but of course she noticed. She just smiled and looked down to her drink.
Phil saw the "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" sticker on her laptop and started to ask her about it. They talked for quite some time and didn't realize the time pass. When Phil said something funny and made her laugh so much that she hit her fist on the table, she looked at her watch. She looked shocked and said, "Oh dear! I'm sorry, I have to go. I have an appointment." She drank the last sip of her latte, grabbed her bag and stood up.
"Well, it was very nice to meet you.", she said and held out her hand.
Phil stood up too and shook her hand. It was soft and warm. Phil looked into her eyes and when she cleared her throat, he noticed that he hadn't let go of her hand.
"Oh, sorry!", he said quickly and let her hand go. She smiled her gorgeous smile again and walked towards the door.
Phil sat down and looked at the empty cups in front of him. "Oh damn, I forgot to ask her what her name is!", Phil realized and turned around, but she was gone already.
Frowning he looked back at her cup and saw a piece of paper on her side of the table. He picked it up and turned it around. She had written something on it. A phone number and name. "Lila. What a pretty name." he thought, "does she want me to call her? Probably."
He drank out his latte and walked out the door with a big smile on his face.
