A World of Pain

Fireworks

May 19th, 2029

      After we were done with our little extra curricular activity, I took her home. When we got there we had another surprise waiting for us. When we started walking up to the door Chloe's parents run out and hug her.

      "Where have you been didn't you see the lights," said Chloe's Father sounding worried.

      "What lights? Wait you mean the fireworks," I say confused. The mother looks at me and I can see tears in her eyes most likely from worrying about her daughter.

       "Yes but they weren't  fireworks they were meteors and lot's of them. None were too big but they still did damage," said the Father a little calmer. I take a second to understand what had happened. As it soaks in I start to panic. But I try not to let them see it. But Chloe knows me too well, she notices.

      She grabs my hand and tries to reassure me by saying, "Hey it's alright it's not the end of the world at least." I smile and calm down a little.

     "Come on Chloe let's get inside, Devon should go home too I'm sure your Dad would want you home," Chloe's father said

     "Bye Devon I'll see you tomorrow at school if we have school that is," Chloe says as she walks into the house. After she closes the door I walk back to my car and start driving home. When I get home I find my dad passed out on the couch again with a beer in his hand. I don't bother to wake him up and just go straight to my room and lay in my bed thinking about the day till I finally fall asleep.

May 20th, 2029

        The next morning I get up early so I can avoid my dad's hangover. I set a glass of water and a few Tylenol on the coffee table. Then I check the news to see if I have school, and not to my surprise we still do. I swear the principle will never cancel school. I get to my daily routine and start driving to Chloe's house to pick her up like I normally do when I notice the power line fell onto the road. I stop and take a different road to her house.

       When I get there I find Chloe sitting on the steps half asleep like always. I start honking my car horn to get her to wake up and notice that I am there. After the first honk she get's up, walks to the car, and get's in.

        "Good morning my love tired as always I can see," I say in a sweet tone as I start driving.

        "Goodnight I'm going to take a nap," She says as she rests her head on the window.

        "Goodnight then," I say trying to avoid any bumps in the road. When we finally get to school I wake her up and we both go to our morning classes. She goes to P.E in the mornings and I go to biological science. All of the classes go about how they always go, aside from the chatter about last nights meteor "shower".

        A little while later in the day, I'm minding my own business when I hear Jose Rodrigues talking about Chloe, and not in a nice way like everyday. But today I've had enough of his mouth. I walk over to him.

        "Hey, Jose why don't you just shut your mouth for once in your life oh wait sorry I guess you don't know how to since you have been sucking so much dick," I say surprised by what I am doing.

        "Your just looking for a fight today is that it well here let me get you started," He says before he throws a punch. After the first hit I tackled him to the ground. That was a bad idea because he is three times my size but he wasn't expecting me to be able to do that. I hit him as fast and as hard as I can letting out everything at once until he pushed me off and a teacher finally intervened and took us to the office but we didn't finish it.

        "What were you two thinking do you even have brains," said Principle Collins in a harsh tone.

        "I obviously have a brain considering that I have straight A's and I haven't gotten in trouble before aside from today that is, but you weren't talking to me you were referring to the meat head beside me," I say in a matter of fact tone as I point to Jose.

        "Sir I did nothing wrong I mean look at me and then look at him he only has a small burse and my face is bleeding he was obviously the one at fault here," Jose says trying to make him self as innocent as possible.

         "Just check the cameras to see what had happened," I say cockily mimicking the tone of Jose.

         "I was just about to do that Devon," The Principle says annoyed, as he moves behind the front desk to twiddle with some dials and checks the monitors. After he sees what happened he decides to suspend Jose for 14 days and to give me 6 lunch detentions witch is fine with me since I don't really do anything during lunch.

         After school is over I go to meet Chloe at the fountain in front of the school when I see Jose there harassing her. But I wait where I am and let him see why no one messes with my girl. The second he tries to touch her inappropriately she punches him in the jaw hard enough to make him fall on his ass. I then start walking over laughing as hard as I can.

        "You really thought you could touch her and she wouldn't do anything," I say when I catch my breath.

        "Watch your back Tanner I'm not done with you just yet," Jose says as he is walking away.

        "That is as cliché as it gets. Is he serious?" Chloe asks as she walks up to me.

        "I think so," I answer as we go to the car.

       "So where do you want to go today it is Friday so we have all night," I ask when I get in the car.
