thursday 1:35

joji started his day as usual; sitting by the lockers with his best friends talking about stupid memes, new technology, or difficult homework.

the three boys leaned against the lockers in the crowded hallway watching the hottest, most popular girl at school walk past.

"wouldn't you like to tap that?" ian whispered, nudging joji's arm, earning a chuckle from both max and joji.

"in his dreams." max butted in.

how did he know

"did you guys finish the math homework?" joji spoke, quickly changing the subject.

considering joji has had a crush on maya since the third grade and she's never acknowledged his existence, he preferred to avoid the subject.

ian began to speak but was interrupted by the bell.

"are you ready for some math, boys?" max spoke, his accent thick with these specific words.

the three boys all sat in a row, enduring the painful lesson on polynomials.

this subject was particularly boring for joji being that math was his strong suit.

staring out of the window, joji's mind began to wonder what it would be like if he had the courage to actually speak to mya without just staring at her and creeping her out.

joji was brought back to reality when a small paper ball bounced off of his head, causing him to face the direction it came from.

he turned to meet ian's snarky smile as ian slid a small folded note across to joji's desk.

the note read "dreaming about maya?"

ian watched intently, stifling a laugh as joji read the note.

joji quickly wrote his reply and slid the note back to ian only for the note to slide onto the floor.

joji stared wide eyed as the noted rested on the floor in front of max.

max wiggled his eyebrows up and down, picking the note up and reading it.

max sighed writing down a few words that read "i don't know why you waste your attention on someone so cold hearted as her."

after joji read the paper he crumbled it up and carefully placed in his backpack.

a pencil rolled by joji's foot, picking it up he turned around to be met with the one and only maya.

"u-uh here." joji stuttered nervously, mentally slapping himself in the face.

"thanks." maya replied dryly.

joji nodded, shifting so he was facing the front of the class again.

max and ian watched the whole situation with sympathy as their best friend embarrassed himself.

"it's alright, dude." max smiled weakly, placing a hand on joji's shoulder.

"george, can i speak to you for a moment?" mr. smith questioned as joji cringed at his real name being used.

joji followed mr. smith into the vacant hallway, unsure if he was in trouble or his grades were bad.

"i've noticed how great you are in this class, you're one of the only students truly grasping the lessons and comprehending it. i was wondering if you'd be willing to tutor a student? i could write you a kick butt recommendation letter for college next year." mr. smith grinned enthusiastically.

joji thought for a moment considering the endless possibilities as to who the student will be.

"sure." joji spoke hesitantly.

"great, i'll go get her." mr. smith spoke, reentering the class.

joji's anxiety started to kick in as he repeated part of the sentence in his head, "her".

sure enough the girl of joji's dreams followed behind mr. smith.

"maya this is george, he's going to help you with this class. you guys can use the library after school hours." mr. smith spoke quickly as the final bell was about to begin.

"you have to what?" max whisper-yelled as joji took his seat.

"i'm so fucked guys." joji began panicking internally.

joji always imagined talking to mya, he just didn't expect this day to come as soon or under these circumstances.

the bell rang loudly, echoing in joji's head. the bell typically signaled happiness in joji's head, not today.

ian and max could tell joji was extremely nervous so they offered to walk to the library with him.

after many failed attempts from max and ian to lighten the mood with stupid jokes and memes they arrived at the library door.

"this is the girl you've liked since third fucking grade and you're getting alone time with her? stop being a pussy." joji whispered to himself entering the vacant library.
