***I wrote this for my health class back in my sophomore year of high school. My teacher was lecturing about drugs and alcohol at the time and wanted us to write about what we enjoy and what our 'Natural High' was. She explained that a natural high was something that gave you an outlet and/or something that gives you a bit of a rush without the use of drugs or alcohol.***
My Natural High Is Writing
My natural high is something that can send you soaring into other worlds. You can go to places with monsters, places spiraling into the past, and even a place where dreams become reality. My natural high is and writing, and when I write I let the words flow through my mind and appear on to paper. Writing is my escape. Whenever I'm upset or even just when I'm in a really good mood, I feel compelled to write. When I was little I couldn't stand anything that had to do with writing, but one of my former teachers once introduced me to a book that completely changed my life. Once I read it I felt as though I had to try and write as well as the author did, and that was how I got started on the road to writing as I do now. At the rate that I'm writing at currently, I compose about two to three books a year all ranging from about thirty-five to fifty chapters long. I write and explore all different kinds of genres, though I've come to find non-fiction is my favorite. As I'm getting older I'm thinking more on the subject of how I could keep writing and possibly turn it into a career. I've thought about becoming an author or journalist, but I have a little while longer until college to completely figure out my future. Writing is my passion and I don't think it'll ever really be gone from my life. As I write I sometimes think of how much I can relate to something Orson Scott Card has said, "You know how writers are... they create themselves as they create their work. Or perhaps they create their work in order to create themselves."
