Hide and Seek ~ Marauders Era

 James woke up first.  It was early in the morning, not too early though. Lily was still curled up asleep next to him.  Everything was so different now. They used to run around all day back at Hogwarts, pull pranks, cast hexes and jinxes at any Slytherin who deserved it. They had  all the freedom in the world and now they had nothing.  It was simply work, home,  work,  home.  No dillydallying on the way. It was too dangerous. They had to aperate all the time to make sure people weren't following them. It was their life now. Yesterday had been the first time in months all the marauders had been together, it was nice but it felt weird.  Almost foreign to them.  You didn't tell Lily he didn't want to worry her, but he and Sirius both knew that things weren't ever going to be the same.

 Lily stirred softly,  her eyes fluttering open. Green meeting grey, she sighed in to him. 

"Hey" she whispered 

"Hi" he smiled back. But just as he leant down to kiss her, their bedroom door slammed open.

"Please  tell me you're decent!" Sirius cried, strolling into the room with his hand over his eyes.

"Would it kill you to knock, Padfoot" James grumbled

"He's a dog, he can't knock, he hasn't got the manners" Lily shot Sirius an annoyed look as Hestia walked in to the room in her dressing gown, leaning against the door frame.

"Would you like to tell why I've been woken up and it's not even 7oclock yet?" She glared at Sirius, "Huh, Padfoot?"

Sirius gulped noticeably "Nope" he said turning back to the couple on the bed, James was sniggering but Lily was still half asleep, a small smile on her face while she leant into James, her eyes closed. "I have an important message to deliver" Sirius continued, " I, Sirus Orion Black, the royal messenger to  Lily J. Evans, have a message". Sirus said standing proudly as he bowed handing James the letter.

"Lil, it's from your sister..." He said reaching for his glasses and reading the front. 

"Mmm..." Lily groaned 

"Lily" James said again

"Lily-flower wake up" Sirius said jumping on the end of the bed. Hestia had disappeared from the door frame and had entered the room again with what seemed to be a wet flannel. She walked over slowly to the bed and knelt down beside Lily's face.

"Lily I'm giving you five seconds" both boys shifted away immediately spotting that a flannel wasn't the only thing she was holding.

"Go away Hest" Lily grumbled, rolling over to face Hestia by accident.

"5" She said slowly pulling out the cup of cold water she had behind her.

"4" Lily shuffled ignoring her.

"3" James and Sirius seeing where this was going hopped off the bed and stood at the end of it.

"2" The boys sarted pulling the duvet slowly off of her with smirks on their faces as she tried to pull it back up to cover her.

"1" Hestia threw the flannel on Lily's face and then poured the water all over it. Lily screamed and sat up suddenly, throwing the flannel at the two laughing boys, who dodged it easily.

"Hest!" 

"I had to go Hogwarts style" The boys looked at her confused. "Back at Hogwarts Lily had trouble getting up early so Marlene, Alice and I used to throw a flannel on her face and pour water on it" she said laughing.

James handed Lily the letter from her sister, indicating that's why they woke her up so ungraciously. Lily sighed and looked at the letter. Yes, it was definitely her sister's hand writing. She opened it carefully but at the same time not really caring what was in it. She looked at it. It was a relatively short letter, which made Lily worry. All of Petunia's letter was always really lengthy, telling how she was a freak or how Petunia has helping her mother with something Lily didn't even know about or how happy she was with her new overweight husband and pearly white house that looked like a dentist waiting room. It made Lily feel uneasy. Her letters were never this short. It said;

Lily,

They're dead. Black cloaks came to the house looking for your parents or anyone related to you. And killed them. Happy now? I knew you being a freak would catch up to you. How does it feel that you are now responsible for your own parents deaths? It's all on you. Don't come to the funeral. Consider yourself disowned. Come and get your stuff while I'm not there. 

Petunia  

Lily froze. Dead? No, they couldn't be. After everything she'd been through, nothing hurt like this. They were dead because of her. Her being a freak. It was all her fault. All of it. A tear escaped but she quickly wiped it away. She could feel James's worried eyes on her but she didn't say anything, what could she say?

"What is it this time? Her and vermin having a second wedding? New carpets put in to match the emotionless white walls? She went to the garden stall?" Hestia asked mockingly, she hated Petunia and the Dursleys almost as much as James did. 

"No, it's nothing, just Petunia being Petunia" Lily smiled but her hands were shaking and her eyes were glazed over with tears. "I'm going to get ready for work" she said going out to the kitchen, dropping the letter on the bed. Being nosey Hestia glanced over at the letter. It was short, less than a page. It was weird.  Petunia's letters were always really long and Lily had spent a long time reading it. She picked it up curiously. Tears rolled down her face as she read it.

"Hest?" Sirus questioned worriedly. Hestia looked up at him, her face lined with tear marks, James looked at her concerned.

"What's wrong, Hest?" He asked. But before either could ask anymore. Hestia shoved the letter into James's chest and ran out the room shouting Lily's name. Both boys looked at each other with a questioning glance. Before reading it aloud. But they only had to get one line in before it clicked in their heads.

"Lily's parents are dead and they think it's her fault"

 Slow moving chapters at the moment. But the third chapters finished and I'll will be updating at least once a week hopefully on and Monday and/or Sunday. Again feel free to comment, vote and suggest new ideas. Love to know your opinion.
