I pulled my wavy brown hair up into a bun and sighed. Today was another one of those days, me going out to be interviewed for a job and just forgotten about afterwards.
Being rejected was literally my life in a nutshell. I went to interview after interview and every time I was ignored or avoided, it was almost like I had some aura keeping people away from me and I didn't like it.
I rushed to my apartments front door and grabbed my purse, swinging the door open with my foot. I stepped outside and clicked the door shut.
It was a cold day and I felt the sharp wind biting at my bare legs. The only sound on the street was the clicking of my zero inch heels, and that was a really hard sound to hear. It felt deserted.
I hugged myself to try and keep the warmth inside of me. I needed to get to Thornebridge road so I stopped to look for signs. My teeth were chattering as I breathed out releasing some warm air from inside of me. The road was nowhere in sight so I carried on walking.
Since there was literally nobody around I couldn't even ask for directions. I found an average height brick wall and placed my purse on it. I dug my hands in and rummaged for the map that came through the post about a week ago.
I pulled out the crumpled magazine-like, leaflet and found the map. I looked for the road I was standing on and found it on the map. It said that I needed to go left, but that lead up onto a hill. I picked up my purse and slung it over my shoulder, once again.
I started to think, why would it take me this way? What could possible be up there to do with a new job? I sighed and followed the directions. My eyebrows still knitted together as I thought this through.
As I reached the top of the hill there was a bench, a hard wooden bench. Next to the bench was a sign saying 'Thronebridge Road'.
"What the heck!" I yelled. I strolled over to the bench and put my bag down next to me. I put my head in my hands.
I sat up straight with my eyes closed and my lips in a thin line. I'd had just about enough of all of this stress and I couldn't handle being rejected anymore, and this time I couldn't even find the place I was supposed to be interviewed at!!
I reached up to my hair an pulled out my bun letting my dark brown locks fall free over my shoulders.
"Excuse me?" A voice said. I looked up to be greeted with glowing emerald eyes, slightly covered by curly locks.
"What do you want?" I asked leaning back. The tall lean figure sat down beside me and ran a hand through his curls.
"Are you here for a job interview?" He asked.
"Well I was supposed to but I'm really sure you need a building to be interviewed in and all I see is a hill with a damn sign saying the name of the dumb ass road on it!!" I said throwing my hands up in the air.
He chuckled and his green eyes sparkled. He was gorgeous. He had a pair of glowing green eyes fitting his tan complexion perfectly. He had a very chiseled jawline with the most lush pink lips I had ever seen.
I narrowed my eyes as he continued to laugh at me.
"I'm glad you find this funny. All I want is a bloody well job." I said folding my arms.
"Well I guess I'll wait with you then," he shrugged finishing off his laughter, "I'm Harry."
"Harry what? You can't just give me your first name...that's weird." I said.
"Harry Styles." He said between chuckles.
"Better. I'm Stephanie Jones but I hate my first name so just call me Steph." I said. He was staring directly at me and his eye were so captivating, I had to force myself to stop staring back at him.
I let out an exhausted sigh and closed my eyes once again. I felt his gaze on me, yet I didn't flinch one bit. Something was weird. If I was sent here for a job interview and apparently Harry was too....why were we the only two and why were we sent here?
I broke from my train of thoughts as I felt the ground shake beneath my feet. I looked down not sure what to expect. Harry also looked down, he seemed as confused as I was.
"You don't know what's going on here do you?" I asked him. He lifted his gaze to me and shook his head. His eyebrows were knitted together and both of his hands were firmly gripping onto the bench.
The ground began to crack apart, the hill crumbling apart before my eyes.
"Steph move towards me quick." He ordered. I rubbed my temple overwhelmed with what was actually happening.
"Quickly I'm serious." He said motioning me to go towards him. I quickly grabbed my purse and slid over to the side of the bench he was on. As soon as I was safely in Harry's grip the bench snapped in half sending us both falling down through the cracks in the hill.
I squeezed my eyes shut, praying that this was a dream and it wasn't actually happening. I was pinching myself over and over again trying to wake up from this mess, even though I knew it wasn't a dream. It was real life. There was nothing I could do about it.
We hit the ground with a thud. I stared up towards where we came from and the hole closed up looking like nothing happened in the first place.
"What the fuck just happened!!??" I screeched.
"Shhhh. There's probably people down here. We need to hide." He whispered grabbing my arm as he tried to pull me off of the ground. I felt my self tense up when he touched me.
"Look I know I barely know you but if you want a chance of getting out of here we should stick together." He said soothingly. I stood up an dusted off before letting out a shaky breath.
I nodded as I heard a loud crash followed by another. It was the two pieces of the bench.
I gulped and Harry pulled me in one direction, as my feet tried to keep up with his quick, but consistent, pace. I was truly terrified.
