"Ma'am, you need to listen to me." Jen could hear an argument taking lay around her.
"No! I won't except it! She can't die!" Yelled a female voice. That voice was so familiar. Who was she? Jen's eyes slowly slide up.
Her whole body ached. She felt as if she was constantly being ran over by a truck. She could see the ceiling. It was white, with small black outlines as shadows, everything was some sort of shade of white. Everything flooded back to her.
The fight.
The car ride.
The crash.
"Ma'am, her brain has been damaged to severely. We simply can't keep he alive. It would only keep her in pain."
Keep her alive? What did they mean? Jen looked over to the monitor. Was she on life support? Was she actually dying?
"I simply can't except that! My baby girl can't be dying!"
Everything came back. She could hear the screaming of rubber on the road and the high pitched squeak of the car desperately trying to stop. Then metal against metal. It was the most atrocious noise she's ever heard. Then she couldn't feel anything, and that's when her mind went fuzzy. She vaguely remembered doctors taking her away from the crash site and pronouncing the other guy dead.
"You have a day with her Ma'am, then we have to take her off life support."
Out of sheer anger, she could see her mom stomp out the door. Her mother..
Her mothers name was Maria. She was in her late twenties, early thirties. But.. Jen couldn't remember her own age.
For hours, all she could think of and remember was the crash. The noises. The screams. The sirens. Everything.
It terrified her.
Jen got to see her sister. Her older sister. So, she was the youngest. Yes! She remembered now! Her sister was a couple years older then her, she wasn't sure how many though. Her sister was about twelve to thirteen. Her sisters name was Heaven.
She learned about the accident, to. She learned her mother's car was rammed by a male who was running a red light.
'What a bad person! He disobeyed the rules!' She thought.
For several hours, her and her sister talked. Then she left, and again she was left alone with the memories. And then... her mother appeared. Her eyes were puffy for some odd reason, and her face was red.
"Hello, baby." She said, sitting down in a chair next to her. "How are you feeling?"
"Mommy.. why are you crying?" Jena mother couldn't help it. Her baby was dying. Her baby would be gone in 10 minutes.
"In ten minutes the doctors.. the doctors will take you off life support."
10 minutes? Had the day gone by the fast? 'Wow, time does fly when you're having fun!' She though cheerfully.
"Mommy, will I see you up where the big clouds are?" Jen asked.
"Yes, dear. But not today. Maybe some day.. though." Her mother replied.
"When you get there, can we play princess?" She asked, smiling a bit. Her mother only nodded.
"I'll be the evil queen," Her mother whimpered. "You'll have to defeat me to get your kingdom back."
"Can sissy join us, mommy? When will sissy walk on the clouds?"
"When she is ready to join us."
"Mommy..." Jen knew something was wrong. Her mother was crying. "Don't cry, I'll be ok. The man in the corner sad he was take care of me."
"What man, sweetie? There's no one there."
"He's right there," She pointed to the corner of the room, where a empty chair lay. The mother couldn't see it, but there sat a little boy that looked around 8. He was smiling at her warmly.
"He loves to play princess, and said he would be my knight in shining armor."
"Tell him I'm happy he'll take care of you," Jena mother took hold of her child's hand, and balled when the doctors came in.
"It's time,"
"No! No it can't be! Just 5 more minutes!" Her mother begged. Jen saw her mother's distress and only smiled.
"Don't worry, Mommy. I'm not going anywhere. Right?" Jen looked at the doctors. They shook their heads. But still.. somehow... she was smiling. "Mommy.. Daddy said he loves you. He's here. He'll take care of me, to! I'll be fine." Jen began to cry, holding her mom's hand.
"I love you so much baby girl," Her mother cried, kissing her forehead.
"I love you.. mommy..."The doctors took Jen off life support.
"Jen, 8 years old. Victim of a car crash. Died at 9:05 AM, on December 25, 2017. Only family is mother and sister. Father parishes in a fire."
On Jena grave stone, flowers were there. Her favorite kind. Daisy's. Her headstone read, "A girl with a big heart,"
The little boy and her father did take care of her, and her mother did eventually join her. And so did her sister. And yet, even in death, the little girl made the world a brighter place.
(I cried writing this. I just.. I know things like this happen! And it happens all the time! People don't obey the law and take an innocent child's life. Please! Enforce the law. For everyone's sake..)
