Scars and sunsets marked the days we spent together. Days that I intended to be weeks, but turned to months. Months, that had now made a year.
How had I let this get so out of hand? The plan was to team up, find Alryi, and go our separate ways. We were quickly running out of supplies, and Alryi, the hidden forest where a plethora of loot and luxury supplies was said to be hidden, was our only hope now.
And yet here we were, hidden in a tiny cave, waiting for night to fall. Since the night Issac and I teamed up, we had watched the sunset every night. But as time went on, we sat closer, stayed out longer, often hand in hand. We were growing close.
Too close.
And as time went on, we caught less animals, found little supplies, and many of my clothes had torn from the constant running, and the leather protection I wore rubbing against it constantly wore down the fabric. But Issac's clothes were sturdier, lasted longer, and not one piece had ripped in our time together. We hadn't found anything suitable for clothes in a long time, and I didn't want to admit it, but I knew that at some point, I would have to wear his.
Why haven't I just given up and left? Because, I was determined to find this treasure. If I didn't, I would surely die, and I couldn't have that happen. So, we searched for months, my skills of general survival, and his of tracking were slowly pulling us towards Alryi, and I could feel the tingle of anticipation in me, and I could see it in Issac's eyes.
It was a particularly cold night, that I realized these things. A long day of running from a pack of murderous thieves, a few near death experiences, more scars to mark the days, no success at finding supplies. We were worn out, to say the least. Yet here we were in a tiny cave, panting and heaving after losing the thieves that had been on our tail moments ago. They had eventually headed off after we killed one of their members, but we didn't grab his pack before the others could start chasing us. We had lost them a few miles back, but kept running, of course. So we sat in the tiniest of caves in the middle of who knows where, completely off the track we had been taking to try and get to Alryi.
But the sun was slowly going down, and by tradition, we sat in our cave and watched it together. We didn't speak, there was nothing to be said, we just sat, catching our breath, as we watched the beautiful display of color spread across the horizon.
Things happened naturally, and by the time it was dark, we were hand in hand, my head laying on his shoulder. We were already pretty much in the farthest back this cave( basically a hole in a boulder), so we lied down and Issac was quickly asleep, which you would expect after the long day. But my insomnia was kicking in full time, and the close proximity to Issac was making me squirm. I stared at the rocky wall, and tried to move as far as possible from Issac, so I wouldn't wake him later with my tossing and turning.
But as I moved away, Issac pulled me in towards him in his sleep, so I just decided to go with it. Its his fault now if he gets kicked. I relaxed, and tried to sleep, and with Issac's body against mine, I fell asleep faster than I have in years.
