I turned the corner and bumped into a person. The caramel scent was just rolling off of them.  I looked down at the persons face. When I looked at them I realized what the smell was. It meant that this person was my soulmate. As if it couldn't get any worse I realized something else. The person in front of me was female. Not a sexy tall guy but a small blonde doe eyed girl staring up at me.

Her pink soft lips were moving but I couldn't hear anything. I was too shocked. I can't have a female mate! This is outrageous and totally against the nature of our packs. Never in my life have I lusted after a female so why was my mate a member of my sex and not the opposite?

I snapped out of my thoughts "Um, sorry" I walked away staring blankly and not paying any attention. I hoped she didn't notice but she must have, I was standing there forever.

"Hey Jordan you okay?" Amy appeared in front of me trying to get my attention.

"Of course." I smiled weakly. I didn't what to think or say yet so I kept my encounter to myself.

"Mhmm you sure about that?" She was skeptical and I didn't blame her. I just nodded my head and continued walking. Amy grabbed my arm and pulled me the other way. "Our first class is this way darling." Thankfully all of our classes were void of my supposed mate. This good bit of news made me feel better but I still had a stomach full of knots.

When school was over I walked with Amy to her car. I spotted my mate a few parking spots away. Getting over all the butterflies in my stomach I walked over to her. "Hi, I'm Jordan what's your name?" Under the smell of caramel I could tell that she was from our pack and she had shifted already.

"My name is Crystal! Nice to meet you. I'm the alphas daughter and from your scent I can tell you are new here." She didn't mention anything about being my mate but I could tell that she knew.

"Okay, I'm somewhat sorry to say this but I can't be your mate. I'm not into women. I don't care about bonds and all that shit. I just can't do it." I ripped the band aid off so to speak. I had to get this over with before it started.

She whimpered and started to tear up. Before all the waterworks started I left. She was so weak.

I walked back to Amy's car and Xavier was there too. They were staring at me. Before they could say anything I got into the car.

"Hey you okay?" Amy jumped into the car after I slammed the door.

"No." I was staring ahead at the other car in front of us.

"What's wrong?"

"Don't wanna talk about it"

"Well what happened back there with Crystal then?"

"Don't wanna talk about it"

"I'm not leaving the parking lot unless you tell me." I sighed, she always got her way.

"Alright." I explained to her what happened and how I felt. "So do you want to go eat now?" I asked wanting to change the subject. I didn't need to hear her opinions right now.

"Of course. Also just so you know I respect your own decision but I don't entirely agree with it." She started the car and headed out.

"Whatever." Any good mood I might've had was gone.

We pulled into the parking lot of a small cafe. The inside was cozy. It had a corner of couches and tables shoved against the walls. The back wall was a counter where there were baristas running around making coffee. I ordered first. I got a vanilla latte and a caramel cinnamon roll. I sat down and waited for Amy to sit with me.

"So how was your first day besides the mate thing?" She whispered the last part and looked at me cautiously.

"Fine. People don't really notice me but it doesn't matter." I shrugged and took a sip of my latte. The warmth coming from the cup made me happy.

"I keep forgetting but I got you a birthday present!" Amy beamed and handed me a small box. It was wrapped in the usual happy birthday wrapping paper. I shook it a little and the thing inside rattled. I ripped off the paper and opened the box. It was a necklace with a silver chain and a emerald sitting in the middle. It was beautiful. "Thank you!" I loved my best friend. I hugged her across the table.

"No problem anything for my best friend. Here let me put it on you." She took it out of the box and walked over to me. I pulled my hair away and she clasped it on. It hung perfectly on my neck. I started to turn around to face Amy and thank her again but out of the corner of my eye I saw Crystal. Some guy had his arm draped on her shoulders and she was giggling. I'm not the jealous type and I don't want to be her mate but I growled at the guy wanting him to move his arm and keep his distance. I quickly turned my head away.

"Hot isn't he?" Amy said noticing what happened.

"Haha, very funny but for your information I don't like him." she took the hint and nodded. Ugh why do I have to be jealous? I don't even like her! I turned and stared at the back of the guys head. Crystal looked at me when I stared at the guy. She smirked at me. I glared at her and stormed out of the cafe, latte in hand.
