Day6 is a rock band under JYP Entertainment. It has 6 members; Sungjin, Jae, Junhyuk, Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon.
The managers recruited those boys and gave them creative freedom, as well as some formal training. Fans embraced them with both hands, like the time they sold out a live concert in Bangkok and two live shows in Seoul.
Brand new songs of them are on album “Daydreaming”. They hit the chords and riffs, making more and more fans with each song. Now Let’s have a deeper look of each member.
Profile of Day6
Debut and Success
Day6 was assembled in 2015 by one of South Korea’s most famous labels, JYP Entertainment.
The group’s members were active prior to their debut, for example, Young K was in a 3-member group during his time in Toronto, Canada; he performed under the name Brian Kang.
One of his co-members from this group was recruited by JYP alongside him, and they both became trainees, but Young K was left alone after his bandmate went to medical studies.
Jae was a participant on SBS’s K-pop Star and finished 6th, which led to him signing an exclusive contract with JYP.
Original Name of group was ‘5LIVE’
Day6 was meant to be called 5LIVE, and instead of Dowoon, there was another member called Junhyeok; they were active during 2014, and released some singles, one especially notable is “Lovely girl” for the OST of the drama “Pretty Man”.
The name 5LIVE reminded fans of Maroon 5, so the band decided to change it.
During 2015, another member was added, the current drummer Dowoon, and the group officially got the name Day6 – in their words, the 6 members are the six days of the week, and fans are the seventh day.
Their debut album “The Day” came out in September 2015, and the group promoted it in clubs all over Seoul. The feature single from the album was “Congratulations” which got a music video, too, released in September 2015.
They held two solo concerts in November in Seoul, which sold out five minutes after the tickets were released; the showcases were part of a tour, which was named “D-Day”.
In February of 2016, Junhyeok left the band and terminated his contract, for personal reasons he didn’t wish to state publicly; in March 2016, the band stood with five members again, and released their 2nd album, “Daydream”.
Debut in Japan
Before their “tour” in Seoul, Day6 had a live event and fan meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, which sold out in less than an hour.
The group is slowly becoming popular all over Asia, though so far they haven’t had other remarkable events or promotions outside of Korea; they were formed less than a year ago, so their popularity and fandom are still to increase and rise.
One example of the growing popularity is – on the day of the leader Sung Jin’s birthday, the banner with the words ‘happy birthday Park Sung Jin’ rolled during a Taiwanese news broadcast.
Many Korean websites and magazines stated that the band’s popularity keeps rising despite them not promoting anything actively at the moment.
We can only wait and see how well Day6 will do abroad, and hope that it goes well!
