Chapter 6: Complete Heartbreak

"What are those things?" Kyle asked feeling a strange mixture of anger and terror.

"Gremlins." the other three answered quickly.

"Damn it we have visiting humans who don’t know anything about us. This has to be Smena Carvos’s doing. Kyle stay hidden. If they see you they won’t even think twice about killing you." Rodrick no longer seemed friendly. In fact all three demon blooded men looked highly dangerous with how their glaring jewel toned eyes seemed to glow.

"But haven’t you been telling me that the Forest Gem will protect me that Peridot can help me?" Kyle wasn’t happy about being told to go into hiding.

"They don’t know that you have the Forest Gem and they can’t."

"Kai please go back to Zeylyn’s Ezas. You’ll be safe there."

"No this is my home too and I’m not going to let a bunch of gremlins make me go into hiding." Kyle was beyond pissed now.

"Piyoku Kai I don’t want to lose you I can’t. I promise you that I will fight for the both of us."

"We’re wasting time." Rodrick growled. "FUCK!" outside a group of six gremlins were dragging a pair of small frightened children through the street. That was more than enough to send Rodrick out screaming like a wild beast to the screaming children’s rescue.

"Stay here Kyle we know how to fight them." Renshal raced to join his outnumbered termanda.

"I swear I will do anything for you if you will just stay here. Piyoku Kai."

"Fine but if they come here I make no promises about what will happen."

"Garodo desna miya Virena." Navic stole a quick kiss and jumped into the fray. His magic may be weak but he was a fierce hunter. Many gremlins met their untimely ends at hic claws and fangs. Bardey and his clan soon joined up with him and yet even in the heat of a primal battle he couldn’t help but be amazed at how much the goblin family seemed to truly enjoy the fight.

"Damned wastes of flesh." Bardey growled as he brought down his spiked club on a gremlin who managed a final death scream. "I had a bad day at work I don’t need this."

"Sure you don’t." Navic told him.

"Alright maybe I do. Crushing bones is good for relieving stress."

Rodrick wasn’t sure how he had managed to kill four of the six gremlins on his own but he had. Renshal dispatched the last two and covered Rodrick’s back as the half demon scooped up he children and found a wolf pack that was guarding the lost young and elderly. He could tell that the gremlins hadn’t expected the small community to be prepared for any form of attack but they were. Most of the inhabitants had come from the wild and it had been one of the first community efforts. Rodrick was proud of how well the entire community had pulled together. Jacob, Miranda, and several of the other local vampires gathered the humans that had no idea as to what was going on and put them all into a deep sleep so that they could later erase what they had seen.

Blood slicked the pavement and streets staining hem a gruesome mix of red, black, and green. The gremlins didn’t seem to show any fear as their numbers fell and defenders showed no signs of giving up. This was a battle for their families, friends, and homes. Smena Carvos had attacked first but it was them who would win.
