I absolutely love this story me and a friend started this story a little over a month ago and we each did half and then mashed them together and I absolutely love how it turned out so I hope you guys enjoy.......
This was it. The day I was getting my wedding dress. I was so excited. This dress symbolized a lot of things to me: my love for Bonner, most of all, but also that sacrifices we had made to get here, the growth of our relationship, and our perseverance to make it all work.
Bonner and I had come a long way since that fateful day in August at the diner. We went from shyness and insecurity to love and strength and a future in less than three months. Our wedding was in five weeks tomorrow, and I could only imagine how much closer we would become, and how much more our love would grow in the weeks to come.
Bonner had made me and Peta take the new truck to the city to pick up our dresses. He was overprotective about my safety now, but I understood and I loved him for worrying. The accident had really made us see how short life could be. I knew that it had shaken Bonner to his soul. He thought that he had lost me, and was literally sick for days at just the idea of it.
It killed me to see him so sick with worry, and I couldn't do anything but comfort him. I had been unconscious for the aftermath of the accident. I didn't have to deal with the gut wrenching fear, confusion, and heart ache that he had. And on top of it all, he faced his biggest fear for me: going into a hospital.
After he had lost his grandfather at an early age, Bonner had been traumatized. In his young mind, doctors were equated with death, and he grown up believing that. After the accident, his mind told him that if I went to the hospital, I would die.
Bonner was a grown man, but in a lot of ways, he was still like a little boy. He wasn't really nurtured, or supported, or encouraged growing up, until Peta and Maks bought the ranch across the highway. He carried with him a lot of fear, resentment and anger.
I was grateful to God that I had come into his life. In a lot of ways, I felt like I had saved him from himself, from his head. He loved his friends and his farm, but for how long could he have gone on like that, without becoming bitter?
Because of Bonner, I found hope in love and a future that I was looking forward to living. And I had the most beautiful man to share that with. My relationship with my parents had never been stronger, and I had never been happier.
So, as I tried on my wedding dress, making sure it fit perfectly, I couldn't help the tears that fell from my eyes. Peta and my mom all crowded around me, smiling. "You look beautiful, Sharna," my mom said, tears in her own eyes.
"Yeah, Bonner is not going to know what hit him when he sees you walking down the aisle, the fit is just phenomenal," Peta said, as I ran my hands down the sides of the dress.
"I love it," I said, smiling. "I absolutely love it." I giggled, and twirled around. "Do you think Bonner would mind if I wear this every day?"
Peta laughed. "Yes, he would mind. I'm sure he would rather you wear what you've got on underneath that dress, instead."
My cheeks flushed a little, because my mom was right beside me, but she just laughed with the girls. I was thrilled with how our relationship had strengthened in the last month. After the dresses were wrapped, we all headed to my mom's house to drop them off.
I wasn't kidding when I told Bonner that I wasn't keeping the dress at the farmhouse. He couldn't be trusted not to peek. And now that I had tried the dress on, it would probably be best I didn't have it with me, or I would be wearing it around the house every chance I could. I loved it that much.
We all had a nice lunch with my mom, before Peta and I headed out to the costume shop. My mom did not want to see me in a sexy Halloween costume. I had no idea what I wanted us to dress up as. Peta and I walked up and down the aisles. "What about a sexy cowgirl?" she asked, giggling.
I laughed with her. "Too cliché."
"A cop and prisoner?" she suggested, making me smile. I liked the idea of mixing Bonner and handcuffs, but I think that might be better left in the bedroom.
I knew I shouldn't be so picky, considering that most of the costumes were picked over. There was a Romeo costume, but no Juliet. A mermaid, but no sailor. I was a little disappointed, but I figured this was just for a college party, and I did wait until the last minute. I guess you can't go into a costume shop the day before Halloween and expect a full selection.
"Oh, Sharna. This is perfect," Peta said, pulling out an angel costume from the rack. It truly was. It was a white mini-dress with a poofy skirt, and a tight, strapless, lace up bodice. There were white, feather, angel wings sewn on the back to top off the look. It was sexy, but innocent at the same time. I had a feeling that Bonner was going to love it.
"So, I'm the angel," I said, flipping through the racks. "That makes Bonner the devil?" I said, pulling out a deep red cape. I had often thought of Bonner as being sinful, so I figured this costume would be perfect for him. I found a red vest and little red horns on a hair band. He could wear his own black shirt and black pants with it. I hoped he went along with this.
I was a little worried he might be uncomfortable with the costume, but he had said that he didn't care what I made him wear. He just wanted to be there with me. But a hair band on a masculine guy like Bonner might be pushing things. Maybe I could convince him, and have some fun doing it.
I tried the costume on quickly, and luckily, it fit really well. The lace up front allowed for a lot of adjustment, and I felt really pretty in it. I figured Bonner was going to like it. We bought our costumes. "So, do you and Maks have any plans for Halloween?" I asked Peta as we drove back through the city.
She giggled. "I always make caramel apples, and we usually just end up snuggling on the couch, watching scary movies. Nothing too exciting," she said. But the smile on her face told me how much she loved their annual tradition. It was sweet, and I couldn't wait to for Bonner and I to start our own traditions.
"Next year you won't be able to do that babe. You'll have a little one to take out." I said with a wink. Peta had just recently found out she was expecting with Maks. She was in her second month and was doing well. "Where do you even take kids trick or treating on a farm?"
"Well, I'm pretty sure baby Chmerkovskiy won't be ready to trick or treat quite yet but when they are we'll go to their Aunt Sharna's & Uncle Bonner's house." Peta said giving me a grin.
"I won't mind that at all. And I doubt Uncle Bonner will either. Maybe by then there will be a little baby cousin in the works as well." I said as I looked out the window wistfully. I wouldn't lie, I was pretty jealous of Peta and Maks right now. They were getting exactly what I had always wanted. However now I had my sexy fiancé so it was looking more and more like that detail would be in my future.
"Whoa, making babies already ehh?"
"I don't know. We'll see how it goes but you know that's what I've always wanted." I answered as we pulled into Peta's place. She slipped out before turning to tell me goodbye.
"Enjoy the Halloween party and let me know if you and Bon wanna be boring and hang with Maks and I instead. Caramel apples and scary movies versus drinking and college kids." Peta teased.
"And what would you advise me to do with these costumes that I just bought."
"You said you wanted to start making babies. You know what to do with them. Bye babe." Peta said shutting the door before I had a chance to respond. I shook my head at her retreating figure before heading back home to see my love. I walked into the house and only found our puppies, Duke and Daisy waiting for me.
"Ohhh, hey loves, where is daddy? He's usually out here with you two. Were you playing hide and seek and lost him?" I said as I scooped them into my arms snuggling them tightly. Duke curled into me while Daisy squirmed to get down. She was a cuddler but only on her terms.
"Fine, fine, I'll just take my Dukie snuggles. You can help me find Daddy Dais." I said setting her on the floor. She almost seemed to understand my words as she scampered off towards the back of the house. She plopped in front of our bedroom door which I just realized was closed.
"Is he in there? What's he doing napping? He never naps you two. Let's go check on him." I said as I crept quietly into our bedroom. Sure enough Bonner was laying there sound asleep on the pillow. I put Duke on the floor next to Daisy and gave them the shush sign. They were typically quiet puppies as it was so they didn't make a noise. I gently crawled into the bed with him and laid in front of him. His body shifted towards mine almost immediately and I grinned. It always amazed me just how in tune we were to each other.
"Shar." He murmured sleepily.
"I'm right here love." I said as I lifted my hand to run through his hair.
"You're back." He stated.
"I am, you were missing. You okay babe? You never nap." I leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss to his forehead.
"I had a headache and it wasn't going away so I figured I'd come lay down. I must have fallen asleep. I'm sorry." He said as he woke up more and more. He opened his eyes and watched me closely.
"I was just worried about you. How's your head now?"
"Ehhh. It's still hurting." He said shutting his eyes again.
"Let me go get you some Tylenol and then I'll let you rest." I said kissing him once more before standing up. I went and got him the pain medicine before bringing it back into him. He took the pills begrudgingly, another thing that all the hospital and past made him hate. I went to go leave the room so he could rest but he grabbed my hand halting me.
"Lay with me." He whined.
"Babe, we have chores and stuff to do. Especially if you're sick." I argued. As much as I wanted to lay down with him and cuddle, I knew that would just leave us with a huge headache for tomorrow with the party and all and not one we could treat with Tylenol and rest.
"But....just for a little bit and then I'll help tonight. I'll be fine. It's just a headache." He said still gripping my hand. I sighed as I looked at him. I would believe him however I'm pretty sure this man never got sick and even when he was sick he refused to stop, so I knew that a headache was more than a headache at this point.
"Okay. Just a little and then I'm going out to start the barn." I said thinking of all the animals and everything we had to take care of. I laid down next to him and allowed him to move over next to me.
"Les can help." He murmured speaking of one of our stable hands who helped with the horses. The man was 65 but loved his job. I had come to look at him much like a grandfather.
"Les has enough stuff to do babe. Just rest, I got it." I said as my hand moved up to his head and began to stroke his hair softly.
"I'll be out to help." He whispered before falling asleep. I laid there for a while with him and then headed out to the barn. It was quite the life I had gotten myself into moving in with him however I loved it. We had 8 horses, 4 cows, 16 chickens, 8 goats, 4 pigs, and a handful of barn cats. Growing up with my parents, we had a few animals but nothing like this. It was amazing to see all hard work and devotion keeping this place took.
"Hi Sadie Ladie, how's your babies?" I asked the gray barn cat who had just had kittens. She was a friendly little thing and always came to see me when I was working. I spent the next three hours feeding and cleaning stalls. Surprisingly this didn't bother me at all. I actually enjoyed being around the animals and taking care of them. I spoke to Les a little while before heading back to the house. I was slightly concerned about the fact that Bonner hadn't come down at all nor had I heard from him. I crept into the house quietly and checked. He was still sound asleep, tucked into my side of the bed now. I sighed and headed to the kitchen. I started a pot of soup before setting down at the table and pulled out my phone to call Peta.
"Hey babe, did you decide you want to come to the Maks and Peta party?" She asked immediately.
"Umm, well, I actually haven't spoken to Bonner yet. He was asleep with a headache when I got home and he has stayed that way since I got here. He woke up long enough for me to give him Tylenol and ask me to lay with him."
"Wait, your Bonner, the Bonner that did the barns with strep and bronchitis is laying down with a headache...." Peta asked trailing off in the meantime.
