INTRODUCTION

The pair, Special Agent Joe Hobbs and Forensic Anthropologist Doctor Scott Hoying, walked to the scene. It was a large, abandoned, indoor park. The officer led them to a basement like room. It was away from every thing else, which had clearly been beautiful at some point. The small room they were lead to was filled with water about 3 feet. Joe and Scott, of course, had a conversation on the walk there...

"So, Max asked Mitch to marry him. Twice."

"Whoa."

"He declined him. Twice."

"What'd he say?"

" "I'd like to marry you-"

"Whoa, Bones, kinda sudden, let me think about it," Joe chuckled. Scott glared at him in confusion.

"What? No, Joe. That's what Mitch said to Max." Scott said as he passed him and descended the stairs and shown his flashlight on the corpse. "Hm..."

Joe stayed behind, out of the muck but Scott went to the corpse, which was in a shopping cart. It had a pink back pack and child's shoes on the foot.

"Well, what happened?" Joe asked the officer. This clearly wasn't his first rodeo.

"During a foot pursuit last night, suspect tosses a knife into this muck in an effort to avoid incarceration."

Joe nodded as he wrote it down on his small note pad. "Bones?"

Scott was almost an inch away from the corpse. Smell never bothered him. Neither had Joe. While he may have made some pretty confusing jokes, he was still Joe's go-to bone person. Luckily, there were bones in front of him. "Pelvic girdle and skull sutures suggest pre-adolescent."

"How long?"

Scott turned to the officer. "Does this freeze over the winter?" The officer nodded and Scott looked to Joe. "Its possible she was placed here as long ago as last fall."

Joe was writing everything down quickly. "Cause of death?" he asked.

Scott poked a hole in the skull. "Looks like a gunshot wound to the back of the head."

"Possible to guess the caliber?"

"Nothing larger than a .22."

"All right, lets get an F. B. I. forensic team down here to search for bullet fragments."

Scott picked up a stone that was in the girl's phalanges. It read "I Love You." Scott showed it to Joe.

"You said that pedophiles can delude themselves into thinking they love their victims, right, Joe?"

"God that's disgusting." Joe shook his head. Not another pedophile case. Those were the worst.
