CHAPTER FIVE

Kirstie tapped Joe's shoulder and he turned around. She was in a very nice dress, and Joe was used to her in a lab coat and glasses. He blinked a few times but answered. "Yes?"

"Does it hurt to get shot?"

"Wai- What?" he looked at her with a confused expression.

"I've been blown up. That wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But I've never been shot."

"Why do you ask?" he raised an eyebrow. This could turn into a long conversation and he had to go stand with Max.

"Iraq."

"What about it?"

"Oh, thought I made myself clear, sorry." She said before clearing her throat. "I've been asked to go to Iraq by the president himself."

"What?!" he almost yelled as he was grabbed by Max to go stand at the altar. As he stumbled up there Scott tried not to laugh a little. Joe gave him a look before composing himself, tightening his bow tie. Scott smiled over at him and did the same as people sat down.

"We have gathered here today to join together in matrimony Maxwell Daithi MacDunagh and Mitchell Colby Michael Grassi. Angela and Jack have invited us all here today to be part of something beautiful: two people standing before their friends, family and community to say, "You are the one I love. You are the one for whom I forsake all-"" the officiator was interrupted by someone walking in, badge up. She looked furious, while the couple looked confused.

"Is this the MacDunagh-Grassi nuptials?" he asked.

Mitch stammered. "It- It's trying to be, anyways."

The man nodded. "I'm with the State Department and it's imperative that I speak with MacDunagh and Grassi before these proceedings, uh, proceed." He walked out of the courtroom. Mitch and Max looked at eachother, shrugged and followed to figure this out.

After the doors closed, there were mummers throughout the audience and Kirstie took this opportunity to ask Joe again.

"Joe."

He sighed and turned around to her. "Yes?"

"Is there any sense in ducking when someone shoots at you?"

"Your body ducks whether you want to or not." He replied. "What's this all about?"

Kirstie handed him her letter. "You can read this later, then explain it to everyone."

Joe snatched it up and read the return address. It was from the president. He knew what this meant. He got the exact same letter years ago to become a sniper. "Why me?" He asked her.

"Y-You know more about duty and honor than anyone else I know..." She said nervously.

"Whath do you meanth Mitch ith already marriedth?!" Shouted Max.

"Angela is totally, unmistakably, legally married." Dobium replied. He was a prosecutor and works in the U.S. Attorney's office, who also usually helped with warrants on cases. He happened to be a close friend, as well.

The agent that had crashed the wedding explained. "As federal employees with security clearance your marriage license underwent special scrutiny. Especially since your wedding was so hurried. You were married in Fiji four years ago."

Mitch rolled his eyes. "I jumped over a broomstick with a guy." The agent left, having done his job. Mitch and Max sat on the stairs.

"I- I'm sorry, Max really, I am. This is my fault." Mitch shook his head.

"No worrieth. No worrieth. We'll juth- We'll, um..." he exhaled, "There'th juth a lot of people in there expecting a wedding."

"Yea... I made this huge deal out of getting married right away, and-" Dobium interrupted Mitch.

"Run."

"Whath?"

"Flee! Scram! Skedaddle!"

"Well... I'd be okayth with it..." Mitch nodded and burst back to the ceremony.

"CHANGE OF PLAN, EVERYBODY! Please go to the reception." Mitch yelled. There was a collective gasp.

"Hathe a great time on uth." Max added.

"Thank you for coming." Mitch smiled; they joined hands and left at a run. Scott and Joe looked at each other, stranded at the altar.

"So..." Scott said.

"Um..." Joe replied as they both looked down, then at each other before turning away and leaving for said reception.
