Prologue.

Macy POV-
I stared at my Dream Eater Merry drawing I finished in my 6th hour study hall. I'm seventeen, eighteen in June. It's May the sun is shining. Everyone is happy that schools about to get out. But I'm not. My brother has friends. My mom loves him. She can't stand me.
"CAN WE SEE MACY GRIMES IN THE OFFICE TO CHECK OUT?" Said the intercom.
"Alright!" Said Mr. Santiago. My art teacher. "Macy you may go." Then I walked out and walked to the office. "Mom?" Then I saw mom was crying. "Mom what's wrong?" Then Shane looked down. "Babygirl, Daddy's been shot." Mom said and I felt tears falling from my face. "Mom is he okay? Is he dead?"
"Honey. He's in a coma. Were heading to the hospital. But first we gotta pick up Carl from school." She said and we walked out of the school and my mom took my hand. "It'll be alright. Okay, Babygirl?" Then I nodded.

We we got to Carls school I saw Carl from a distance and he ran to me and hugged me. "I thought you rode the bus."
"C'mon. We have something to talk about." Then mom walked to us. "Carl, baby. Daddy's been shot. It'll be okay. Macy-"
I was on my knees crying and Shane had to pick me up. "You gotta be strong. Think about Carl, think about your mother."
But I couldn't be strong. I just couldn't do it.
