Leave the Gate

Morning came, but no light shone through the curtain covered windows. No birds were singing, no smell of fresh mowed grass, no sounds of laughter and playing. The only sound Will woke up to was the continual rain drops pounding on the windows.
He stretched and looked around, the room still being dark, he sat up, groaning in the action. His feet hit the floor, and he stood up, shuffling to the window to look outside. He pushed the curtains to the sides, and the small amount of light that escaped the storm clouds above flooded into the room, and lit it up just enough so he could see.
He peered out the window, through the pounding rain and water washing down the window, he looked at the sight of the large buildings surrounding his.
He turned around, yawning, not sure if Cal was awake, so he quietly walked to his bed.
A small groan came from across the room, followed by "Why did you have to open the damn curtains?"
Will chuckled at his sister as he put on a black t-shirt with dark red sleeves.
"Heh. Rise and shine, Cal. Just another day in paradise."
"Ugh.. what the fuck ever..." She groaned, sitting up with insane bedhead.
Will chuckled again.
"Nice hair."
She glared at him as he put on his black jacket with red lining along the seams, and large patches of red on the sleeves, clearly indicating his faction. He patted the velcro on his biceps, making sure his medic patches are there.
His black tactical pants matching his jacket, having red lining on the seams. He put his boots on, and then his black hat.
He stroked his goatee, making sure the hair was straight, and he was ready to go eat breakfast. He looked over at Cal who was just starting to get out of bed, and he threw his hat at her, hitting her in the back, laughing.
"Get your slow ass up. It's time for breakfast." He chuckled.
She glared at him and angrily threw his hat back at him, which he easily dodged, picked up, and put on.
Cal shuffled sleepily into the bathroom, eyes just barely open, shutting the door behind her.
Will walked to the door of the room, putting on his tactical backpack filled with medical supplies, and putting twin 1911s in his holsters.
He opened the door walked out, shut it behind him, and walked into the long hallway lit up by dim and flickering lights every few feet. He followed the red carpet through the middle with the light tan tiles against the wall, past door after door, the same wallpaper becoming monotonous and boring, until he got to the elevator.
The doors have been replaced by a normal door, and the elevator is stuck at the basement floor. Will took out his gloves, reached out to the silver cable in the middle of the shaft, and leaned into it, sliding down as his feet gripped the cable.
He slowed down as he got to the first floor, and then his feet touched the wooden boards that have been put into place there to keep anyone from going too far.
And off to breakfast he went.

An hour later, he walked out of the cafeteria, and outside into the now light rain. The red banners hanging from the light poles waves in the wind, and people of various ages walked around, from building to building. Some of them being sentinels, the guards that acted as police, identified by their ballistic vests adorned with red.
Some being mechanics, identified by black and red, or just red long coats. Some, like Will, were medics, who were identified by the backpack and medic patches on the arms.
Will walked into a mechanic shop, walking into the part where the mechanics are, and walked up behind  a woman who was wearing a knee length black coat, adorned with a foot length of red cloth on the bottom of the coat, encircling around it. The silver buttons on the torso of it buttoned up, and leather bracers on her wrists, and a leather pauldron over her right shoulder.
"Hey Nicole."
"Hey, Will! I didn't see you at breakfast!" The woman said, turning around and setting her coffee cup down.
She had him wrapped up in a hug before he could move, and he just laughed.
She pulled back with a big smile
"What's up? How's Cal?"
Nicole wore two piercings to the corner of the right eye, and one through her tongue, and thin glasses. Her short straight black hair brushed to the left, and a heart on a necklace around her neck.
"I'm just getting ready to leave the gate and explore, see if anything is new, see what I can scavenge. And Cal is doing good. She.." Will was cut off when an elbow landed on his shoulder, and Cal quick cut in. "Just got done eating breakfast, and am about to leave the gate with this loser." She said with a shiteating  grin on her face. "See what kind of engines I can scavenge parts from."
Cal was also a mechanic, wearing a knee length black coat with no sleeves, but black leather gloves up to her elbows. Her hood down and red face mask at the collar of her shirt. She already had a fully loaded combat belt, with ammo and necessities on it. A black AK-47 slung around her shoulder with a red stock and red magazine.
"Will, take care of your sister, okay? Cal, just don't do anything too stupid." She laughed slightly.
"Yes, mom" both sarcastically said, rolling their eyes and turning around after both hugged the woman.
Cal shoved something ino Will's chest as they walked out, and he realized it was his Vector SMG. He clipped it to a clip on his bag straps as she went to save his M1A rifle into his chest, but he caught it, slinging it around his shoulder as they walked into the light rain, under the cover of the clouds.
The pair walked down the remains of the once-upon-a-time main street filled with potholes and growth from disrepair.
They walked to the scrap wall at the edge of their camp, and waved at the guard at the top, who pulled a lever, raising the large, heavy, metal gate so they can walk underneath.
The pair walked out, and heard the gate slam shut behind them.
Will hook his Vector in his hands, finger switching off the safety as he looked around.
"Well, safeties off. No telling what's out here.."
