<<PRESENT>>

“No!” I shriek as the devilish grin swipes across her face. She found my weak spot and I can’t let her use it against me. Her finger reaches onto the trigger, tempting. “You can’t do this to me.”

The wind whips past me and I shiver. I keep my eyes locked on the mad woman in front of me. If I shift my glaze I will be sucked into a face of fear that I can’t handle. But, her eyes are glued to my target and I sigh.

“Please. I will do anything. Just don’t shoot him.” I beg, weakness sounding thick in my voice. She looks over at my for a moment, almost stunned by my words until she looks back to her target.

“Anything will never be enough, now.” She says in a monotone voice. Before I can comprehend her words she pulls the trigger. With the sound of the gun shot, my heart is shattered. She runs from the area and I can’t react. I finally realize what happened when I look over at him.

He has fallen to his knees. His eyes scream fear as he is frozen. His hand is shaking when he reaches out and places his hand over the single gunshot wound. I didn’t know I was screaming until I realize I am also at my knees. I stand to my feet and run over to him.

My arms reach out and touch him, his eyes still boring into mine. My heart is broken and the tears are falling out of my eyes uncontrollably.

“Sam, I love you. So much. I love you.” His voice hoarse with pain and shock.

“No. This isn’t over. I won’t let it be. You’re alright. You’re alright.” I repeat as my fingers shake over his wound. He gives the smallest shake of his head and the first tear falls from his eyes.

“Let go, Sam. I love you.” He says again and I can’t breathe.

“No. You are alright.” I say, sternly, through my tears. “You can’t leave me. You can’t.” When he doesn’t respond, the pieces of my heart sink into my feet. His gaze is blank and lifeless into my eyes and I begin to sob.

“Someone! Anyone! Call a fucking ambulance! Please!” I scream, my voice getting lost in the wind. I pull him close to my chest and scream more. This can’t be over.
