Brian sat silently on an old, beaten up bus which was remodeled from an old church bus. The logo on the side was peeling up and cracking, making the words "Saint Adelaide's Youth Church" distorted and hard to read. He sighed as he looked around at everyone riding along with him, starting to regret actually getting on the bus. He slumped down farther in his seat and gazed out the window just in time to see it pull up to a large field covered in crab grass and dandelions. The loud squealing of the brakes made Brian cringe, his hands moving up to instinctively shield his ears,"Oh gosh," he thought as his eyes welled up with tears,"Why didn't I think to bring any earphones?"
The only person to get on the bus was a tall, freckled white boy with fiery red-orange hair and thick, nicely shaped eyebrows. His shoulders were narrow and slumped forward and when he sat down next to him, Brian could smell cigarettes and mints. "Oh jeez" He thought, studying the boy next to him carefully and silently. He had an old looking dark green backpack sitting in his lap, the half leather straps covered in different band themed buttons and one patch in the shape of a weed leaf. Lenny, the stranger, cleared his throat and waved nervously,"Hey there... bud..." Brian waved back, still carefully watching Lenny, his eyebrows furrowing slightly as he began to speak,"Hello. I'm Brian. My parents call me bean." Lenny nodded slowly, starting to pick at the buttons on his backpack nervously, "My name is Lenny.. my family calls me Lenny.." Brian nodded and looked out the window, trying to think of a way to keep the conversation. After a few minuets of trying Brian decided that it was hopeless and he stayed quiet, even though every once in a while he'd look at lenny and hope that he would think of something to say. Unfortunately neither of them could think of something the entire ride to the camp and when it was time for everyone to pile out of the bus they went their own ways. Brian went to his cousin Marcel, a chubby druggie who desperately wanted Brian to "meet this cool guy he knows". The thing is, whenever he would actually meet the guy he would get tricked into going to bed with them and he'd never see them again. He was tired of it. He promised himself that this summer he would stop looking for a boyfriend. He doesn't need one to feel normal. Not at all.
