The most perfect day ever!

I strolled through the park on a perfect, sunny weekend. The sun glared hard on my skin giving me a feel of its warm glow. It wasn't cold nor hot. The weather was just right. The laughter of children could be heard from the playground. Joy radiated off them so much so that you couldn't help but smile.

Just as I couldn't think anything could go wrong... What once was laughter had turned into blood-curdling screams breaking the peaceful bliss. I stopped, frozen in place as I stared at the huge object eclipsing the sun. I felt the hairs on my neck tingle with the instinct to run, but my body did nothing. It wasn't til I heard a man scream for his family to get in his car, that I could start moving. So I headed towards my single bedroom apartment. At least, I have no one to worry about, no one to care for. My heart sank at the thought of all these people I passed by. They're running too. Running to find their families, running despite not knowing what could happen if they don't. I shook my head trying to focus on one thing, survival.

When I got to my apartment, I jogged up the stairs to the second floor. I swiped at the sweat forming above my brows and fiddled with my keys to open the door dropping them a couple times. Cursing out loud to myself each time. After finally getting the door open, I ran to get my giant hiking backpack that was stored at the back of my coat closet for emergencies. It contained flashlights, batteries, a small portable universal radio, a first aid kit, fire starters, pocket knives, rope, some preserved food, water bottles, emergency blankets, and my emergency tool kit. Oh, and the built-in attachable tent.

What? I am very into zombie movies, so I like to be prepared...

After lugging that heavy thing into my bedroom, I grabbed any extra clothes I could find quickly. There were still a little space in my backpack for one more thing. I grabbed it and shoved it in there, zipping the stuffed-backpack up. Just in case. I struggled getting the fat hiking backpack onto my back, but once I did I locked up my apartment and sprinted to my car. I threw my stuff in the passenger seat and started driving out, far away as possible.

Throughout the city, I pass by multi-car crashes, buildings burning on fire, and the anarchy of fear-driven people running about. I turn the radio on, "There has been what seems to be a mysterious Nuclear object coming towards California! Everyone evacuate the city! Find underground safe houses! Stay sa-!" I turned it off. My heart beating faster than ever. I glue my eyes to the road. "Keep going, go far away as possible." His words ring in my mind. A memory I didn't want to relive right now.

I see people going down an underground tunnel. My heart slows down a little at the sheer hope of survival. I drive over to them. SPPPTTU SPPTTU SPTTU- "No No No No!" I scream hitting my steering wheel. My stupid piece of junk car just died out on me! I panic as the last person goes in and the hatch doors are about to be shut. I quickly throw on my 80lb hiking backpack and grab my machete from under the passenger seat. "Wait!" I scream, shutting the car door closed. Adrenaline pumps through my veins as the thought of my only chance to live is about to be taken away from me. "Hey, wait! Please! Wait!" I yell sprinting full on towards the bunker. I finally reach them breathless and panting with sweat slicked all over my face, neck and limbs. "Got... any more... room?!" I manage to speak between breaths.

They nod and usher me in, closing it shut behind them. "You're one lucky son of a bitch!" A tall gruffy man called out as he slapped my shoulder. "We were just about to lock it up til I saw your scared-ass!" The slap knocking me and my heavy gear down. "Oup, sorry bout' that" the old guy chuckled out as he helped me back up.

I look at him in disbelief still shocked I made it. Holding my machete close to my body as we walked down the tunnel and entered another door, which got sealed up too. We stood in a huge concrete room about the size of a high school gymnasium, complete with four tunnels and their corresponding metal doors. Looking around I saw vents spaced around the walls and signs above each tunnel; Bathrooms, Cafeteria, Storage, and Control Room. The tunnel I just came out of had a sign above its metal door as well, reading: Exit.

Men, women, and children scattered around the room distraught, some wailing on their knees holding onto eachother. I turn my head to look anywhere else. My eyes fall onto two people in a corner. A man around my age of twenty, and a girl who looks in her teens. They seem the most held together group here. I headed towards them. The man jumps to shield himself in front of his... sister? "Woah there, big guy! I'm no threat." I said quick to appease him. He looked at my machete and cocked his head. I set it down slowly. Then stuck my hand out, "We good?" I smiled a pearly white grin.

He loosened up a bit but didn't move from his spot. The girl came up from behind him and shook my hand. "Aspen. I'm his sister." She smiled faintly, still a little shaken up.

I smiled and nodded as I waited for the man to introduce himself. Aspen smacked his arm, "Ow- I'm Levi." He said in a short manner. There was an awkward silence. "Aren't you going to introduce yourself?" I looked to see Levi staring at me with mild annoyance, obvious by his furrowed brows.

If you couldn't tell- I haven't gone out in awhile... and this isn't exactly the best time to brush up on my social skills.

I blushed out of embarrassment, and then cleared my throat. "Davina." I muttered. My body went stiff as my head filled with distasteful memories of who had given me that name. I started walking to set up camp, hoping to clear my mind by doing something productive. I could hear their footsteps behind me.

Then the room shook. Harder than any earthquake we ever had before. I looked behind me and grabbed Aspen and Levi's arms. I ran over with them to a tunnel under the doorframe. "Stay here. If you need me, scream. Got it!" Aspen nodded her head quickly. I gave them my machete and backpack. Levi was about to say something but I ran off to go get the other people in safe places.
