The Apex predator (Newscapepro fanfic)

chpt. 2

Once I caught up with Uni he and Daphne who were crouched down in some brush.

The beam of light had some small crates near the bottom. “Why don’t we just get it” I whispered as I
crouched down next to him, “We aren’t alone” he whispered back making me look around.

I quickly noticed other people, two or three I think. There was a pair of two and one sole person.

“What do we do” I asked, “We wait” Uni said readying his spear. I really want a new weapon now, I feel so under equipped.

Finally someone made a move, the pair of two bolted out. Uni whisted making Daphne bolt out with a shriek, he ran after her leaving me to watch. As the dino tackled one person down and Uni tackle the other. The third person who was forgotten made a beeline to the crates making
me sigh and jump out myself.

He didn’t see me as I tackled him down, he had no weapon. I held him down as he struggled to overpower me, “Kill him Cory” Uni yelled as he held his spear out as more people appeared.

He and Daphne killed the pair.

“What” I said looking at him in shock, “Kill him” he yelled just as the person took his chance by punching me in the face and running off.

He didn’t go far as a black raptor leaped out and caught the unlucky person in his jaws.

“Back away now” Uni yelled as he quickly climbed a tree and Daphne bolted for cover.

I looked around panicked as the other people ran for it, I ran over to Uni’s tree and he helped me up just
as more raptors appeared.

I counted six raptor, each had a saddle on their backs. “Good job Night” a voice said as a person with bright red hair appeared petting the black dino’s head.

It purred in happiness as more people appeared each having a strange hair color.

I saw five guys and one girl, each having a raptor beside them with a different colored accessory. I couldn't see what they were though.

“Rats, let’s get the loot and go” One said.

After what was a painful hour we climbed down as the raptor riders ran off with the valuables. “Great they were near” Uni said rubbing his forehead, “Who are they” I asked as Uni sighed.

“People I’ve seen or traded with call them the raptor riders but I know them by the vacktors. They take control of the whole west side of the island, killing new comer and people alike” he said.

“I was lucky to avoid them but they are more armour and equipped then all of us combined”.

“I guess there a big deal” I said making him nod, “Let’s go back to my camp, we can rest there” Uni said. “What about Daphne” I asked not seeing the dilophosaurus anywhere.

“She probably got restless and went to find something to eat, she knows when to return to camp” Uni said
making me sigh.

“Let’s go before night falls” Uni said as he lead me away from the battlefield. I guess my first day
taught me that it’s killed or be killed.

Time skip

“Welcome to my camp” Uni said as we stopped near a cliff near the shore. Daphne instantly ran to her owner and growled happily. Uni stroke her head.

His camp consisted of a small hut and a campfire with a chest. Near the fire was so dead animal which I guess Daphne brought back.

“Not bad” I said looking around making him chuckle, “How long have you been here” I asked. “About a few months I think. I don’t know you lose track of time here” he said.

He kneeled down and started looking through his chest, he brought out an
axe made of stone. “Here use this for now, I’ll teach you how to make a spear tomorrow morning” Uni said, “You made this” I said looking at the stone tool, it must've taken a long to
make this.

“You learn a lot of things once you're on your own” he said as he started looked at the dodo that Daphne brought, the dilophosaurus was wagging her tail. “I guess we can share tonight” Uni said, “Cory light the fire, I’ll prepare this” Uni said picking up the huge bird by it’s legs.

He walked away leaving me and Daphne, “So I guess I should try” I said trying to figure out how to light this damn fire. Daphne tilted her and tossed her head over to a pile of stick, “Okay we’re doing this the hard way”.

I struggled for who knows how long till Uni came back and helped me. I’m not an outdoor person, I guess he wasn’t either. “So how do you know how to do this stuff” I asked as Uni got a spark going, “Some person taught me” he replied adding so dry grass to the growing fire.

“Is he or she still alive” I asked, “No he got eaten” Uni said so casual it freaked me out.

“Have you ever tried Dodo” Uni said trying to change the subject. “No” I said, “Well there's a first time for everything”.

Time skip

“So we don’t get attacked in our sleep” I asked as Uni was making me a bed, “No Daphne usual warns me and I’m not a heavy sleeper” he said as he looked at the dilophosaurus who was sleeping in her makeshift nest.

“You have to be alert here, that’s true but many don’t like walking around in the dark, since most dinos are nocturnal predators” Uni said, “Good to know” I said as looked above me to see the moon poking out from the clouds.

“Okay, I’ll make you a better one later” Uni said as he finished, “It’s fine” I said as I laid down.

“I’ll teach you the basics” Uni said as he also laid down in his own sleeping bag, his spear resting beside him.

He sat up for a while and sighed, “What” I asked. “Nothing, nothing” he replied as he stood up and extinguished the fire.

“Good night don’t let the compsognathus bite” Uni said turning around on his side, “Very funny” I
said.

Before closing my eyes, “No I’m being serious they bite you in your sleep if you're not careful” Uni said.

I gulped who needs sleep anyway.
