Camila's POV
Lauren left my house at 9:06. I stood in my bedroom, shocked. I can't believe I just kissed her. At the same time, I'm happy I did. She didn't have a single look of regret or disgust in her eyes. She was blushing. When I watched her pull out of the driveway, she did a cute little happy dance. I smiled while looking out the window. I took a shower, read a couple chapters of Little Bee, and I noticed my phone had rung. It was a text from Lauren.
"So, with what happened earlier, are we cool?"
To which I replied:
"Of course. I don't regret it at all. I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable.."
"Of course you didn't. I enjoyed every second :)"
I blushed at that. God she was the cutest. I was about to type something else, but she interrupted.
"The girls and I were gonna go roller skating tomorrow night since it's Friday. You want to go?"
"Sure, it's not like I have anything better to do. :)"
"Awesome. I'll pick you up at seven?"
"That sounds splendid. Given that we both must be at the fine instituton of Carson City education, I say we get some beauty sleep? See you tomorrow. :)"
"Goodnight, goober."
I laid down that night and just stared at the ceiling. One part of my mind was celebrating the fact that the most beautiful individual to ever walk the earth is flirting with me. The other half of my mind was telling me how stupid I was, kissing a girl I had just met that day.
These arguments were racing through my brain all night. I finally fell asleep at around one in the morning.
I woke up to my alarm clock screaming. I rushed through my morning routine and walked out the door. In my driveway was a surprise. There was a brand new car with a big red ribbon on it. It was a red four-door Honda civic. On the bow read "Camila, from Mom and Dad." I ran back inside.
"Dad, are you aware that there's a brand new car with my name on it in our driveway?"
My dad looked up from his newspaper and smiled at me.
"Sinu, she saw it." My mom came in from the living room, glowing.
"Your dad got a big bonus and we thought that since you were doing so well and you just got your license, why not?"
I ran to my dad and hugged his neck. The whole time yelling "¡Gracias, gracias, gracias!" I did the same to my mother. She handed me the keys and told me a quick list of rules. Be home by curfew, no sneaking out, keep it clean, no drinking, drugs, etcetera. She knew as well as I did that she didn't have to worry about that stuff, but she had to go through it anyway. Moms.
"You'd better get to school, there's only a certain number of parking spots. I love you."
I went out the door and got in my car. I loved it already. It was beautiful. It had beige leather seats, a stereo with satellite, and a sunroof. I turned the radio on and the Arctic Monkeys were on the radio. Today was already going fantastic.
I pulled into the school parking lot and found a spot right by the gate so I could get out easily. I hopped out of the car, locked it, and waited for the girls to get there.
I saw Ally pull into the parking lot in a navy blue Chevy Tahoe. Normani was in the passenger seat. I could hear the Beyoncé song they were playing from where I was standing. I laughed and shook my head. Normani stepped out of the car and walked over to me. Ally had to jump to get out of the car.
"Okay so I'm in love with your car." Normani said, touching the hood.
"Thanks, I literally just got it this morning. My parents surprised me."
"That's one heck of a surprise." Ally said. Normani turned to Ally.
"Where's Dinah and Lauren?"
"They should be here any minute."
Just then, Lauren's white BMW pulled into the parking lot.
"Are we still on for tonight?" Dinah asked the group we were standing in.
"Yes. Did you want to go, Camila?" Normani asked me.
"Lauren asked me yesterday, and I said yes if that's okay with y'all."
"Of course it is!" Normani squeaked. Her smile was brighter than the Nevada sun.
The bell rang and we parted ways. I had American History first hour, and Geometry next. It was a slow day in all. I had lunch with the girls and pretty much had a discreet staring contest with Lauren.
At the end of the day, we walked to the parking lot, Lauren and I. I showed her my new car, and she said she liked it. She told me she'd be at my house at seven.
I got home and informed my mom of my plans for the evening. She was happy for me. I had never made friends this fast. I was happy, too. I decided to wear an Arctic Monkeys t-shirt, jeans, and my black Converse. At 6:28, my phone went off.
"Do you want to stay over tonight? I'm not a boring host, I swear."
"Sure, let me ask."
My mother told me to just call her and tell her where I am. And I agreed. And I told Lauren. She told me that we probably won't be sleeping, too much adventure to do. At 7:00 exactly, I heard a horn outside. I grabbed my phone charger, my change of clothes, and headphones.
The whole drive, Lauren and I held hands. She made me feel safe and dangerous at the same time. We pulled into an empty lot a few minutes later.
Ally was there with Normani and Dinah.
"What are we doing here?" I asked.
"Roller skating."
"But this is an empty lot."
"But it's perfect for skating."
Lauren stopped the car and popped the trunk. There were two penny boards, and two pairs of roller skates. She grabbed the boards and handed me a blue one with orange wheels. Hers was yellow with orange wheels. She wheeled over to the girls and I did the same. The one problem, I didn't know how to stop. So, instead of jumping off like a normal person, I rammed into Ally's car. It didn't hurt thought, I just got up and as soon as the girls saw me laughing, they laughed too. Ally turned on the radio in her car. It was Demi Lovato's song Neon Lights. The girls started dancing, laughing, and belting out the words.
"Have you ever skated before?" Ally asked.
"Not in a long time."
For someone so small, Ally was one of the best skaters I've ever seen. She was doing flips and jumps and ollies. I eventually got the hang of it and I was able to ollie over an old curb. We were out there for a couple hours. Dinah and Ally had a curfew, and Normani had dance in the morning, so at 10:22, they left, leaving Lauren and I alone.
She turned to me, smirking. "Ready for that adventure?"
We got into her car and she pulled out a list. The list had check boxes. I didn't get to read the list, due to the fact that she wanted to surprise me.
"First, we have to get some things. Do you mind getting some of these from the Sam's on Fern? I'll stay in the car."
When we pulled into the Sam's, she handed me a list and $500 in twenties.
"How did you get all this money?" I asked.
"Summer job. I was saving for a new tv, but this is much more entertaining."
The first thing on the list was a twenty-four pack of cherry Pepsi. Next, bobby pins. Next, sixteen, precisely, packs of M&Ms. Next, a throw blanket for a king size bed. Next, Stevie Nicks's Bella Donna album remastered. Next, a bottle of advil. The list went on and on with the most random things. I ended up spending $126 of the $500 dollars. I pushed the cart out to Lauren's car. She got out and told me to just sit in the car while she put the bags in. She got back in the driver's seat with a cherry Pepsi in hand. She handed me one as well.
"Now," she looked over at me with fiery eyes, "the adventure begins."
