Maia woke up with a jolt, wide eyed. She looked to her right, looking at the mirror. She still had her large birthmark on her right cheek. She got up, realizing she was late for work and ran, faster and faster each moment.
She got to the garbage dump, or "work". The whole sky was blocked off, by tons of metal pieces. Apollo, ruled the humans. He and his army had the highest tech everyone knew. Sliding doors, alarms, lamps and even motorboats! Maia thought it was fascinating. "Hey! You're late again.." a girl shouted. She had black hair, like Maia. Elysha, ran to Maia. "Here! Quick, the army's inspecting today!!" she quickly said. Maia sweat nevously and thre the box to the tree, along with the rest of the boxes. Inspection day was the worst. This was the day Apollo's _best_ soldier could pick on Maia. Maia ran with the others and got to work, sweating nervously and exchanging glances as they heard loud footsteps. "HEY! GARBAGE GIRLS!" a voice rang out. Maia, Elysha and all the others straightened their backs, saluting the large girl in a blue and white uniform.
The tallest girl, Sombra, was the leader. She was called "Humanity's Stongest". She stared at Maia longingly, disgust in her eyes. Maia straightenes her back more, causing it to ache. "G-gh.." Maia whispered quietly. Sombra smirked, "Didn't you ever learn to respect, trash girl?" she asked, her comrades chortling behind her. "I did. It's just that you don't know what it means." Maia shot back, causing all the girls except Sombra to gasp and cheer for Maia. Maia giggled silently. Sombra clicked her tongue "BACK! We're done here..." she shouted at her comrades. The soldiers headed out, leaving Sombra with a look of madness.
When they finally left, the girls were laughing, cheering Maia on. One of them lifted Maia. "You go!" "Did you see the look on Sombra's face?? Priceless!" "Fiery, Maia!" Maia heard these and felt appreciated.
She smiled, raising her fist and said, "TRASH GIRLS?? Hah! We'll show 'em all!" "Yeah!" they all chorused. An old lady came walking into the dumpster, frowning. The girls went silent and Elysha brought Maia down. "Maia! Porque? WHAT DID YOU TELL SOMBRA THIS TIME??" the old woman asked. "M-mama! I- I mean.. Grandma Latina! H-heyyy.. How's it going..?" Maia said nervously. Latina sighed quietly and dragged Maia out of the dumpster "A-ah!! Not my EAR please!" she shouted, holding out her arms. The girls started working again, silently talking and giggling. Her Grandmother was the one who owned the dumpster. Again, Maia never had the best of luck, so she had to deal with what she had.
This, this was her Small Paradise.
