The NTSB made several recommendations to prevent it from happening again. American Airlines changed maintenance policies, to go in line with what McDonnell Douglas had planned. McDonnell Douglas itself redesigned the pylon. It is no longer procedure for pilots to reduce the speed to V2 and now alarms are powered by both engines, not to mention that now both pilots are now given stick shakers instead of just the captain. American Airlines was fined half a million dollars from the US government, McDonnell Douglas shares went down and not that long after, McDonnell Douglas went bankrupt and was unfortunately taken over by its rival, Boeing.
