Here's the deal, guys:
Remember when you were a kid, and you were afraid of the monsters under your bed? How did we suddenly stop believing in them as soon as we grew up? Well, most of you would scoff and say something like "They never existed in the first place, that's why." But, what if they really did? What if they simply hid in the darkness, where only the imaginative minds of curious little children could spot them? Well, in this world, at least, there are a cursed few who become these so called "shadows", these beings hidden in the darkness. The people who are damned with this fate are not all tied together by the same family nor do they become part of the darkness at a particular age. No, this "disease" of sorts doesn't diferentiate by race, gender, religious belief or otherwise. It just happens. And, for a bright little girl named Kanda, her destiny changed at the short age of five. By becoming a "shadow creeper", Kanda is possessed by the darkness on all nights, unless if she's gone to sleep before the sun sets or if the night has fallen upon a full moon. If Kanda ever wakes up before the sun has risen every night, those around her, if not hiding under their covers (the only weakness to the darkness), become her victims. Kanda is now nineteen and in college. She has a roomate named Claire who knows nothing about her "side-effect", though she has been warned to never wake her up.
KANDA'S P.O.V.:
"I looked outside my window as the sun set and quickly put my hood over my head, drew the curtains together and put the book on my nightstand. With a great, big sigh, I muttered depressingly: "Seems like another day in the darkness." Before I went to bed, I looked over at my roomate. She was sitting at her desk, her short, quirky blonde hair a perfect fit for her. She looked over at me and shook her head.
"Going to bed early again? Figures." she said, turning 'round and 'round on her swivel chair.
"Yeah," I chuckled. "Hey, you are under no circumstances to wake me, okay?"
She waved her right hand dismissively and continued to scribble. If only she had listened to me then.

"Kanda. Kanda! I think there's something under my bed. It's creeping me out!" Claire shook me up in the middle of the night. I looked at her, horrified, and whispered: "What did I tell you?! Now, there really is something to be afraid of, Claire!" She looked at me confusedly before asking: "What's wrong?" Suddenly, I had noticed the shivering from my hands, I could feel the emptiness filling me up. There now remained a void were my heart had once been, and I saw my physical self disappear into black as I lost consciousness."
