Jeremy stares outside a commercial plane window, he stares at the bright blue Florida sky. He starts to wonder how his life will be now. Something about the atmosphere made him feel different. A slight uncomfortable feeling perhaps, but nevertheless the plane lands in sunny Orlando Florida. He exits the plane to see a small petite woman standing outside the gates waiting for him. She looked exactly as he remembered. She had long curly brown hair, colorful jeans, and a loose plaid flannel on.
Anna (mother): there he is!
Jeremy: hey mom
Anna: oooh I've missed you so much, it's great to have you back in Florida again.
Jeremy: yeah, it's good to be back
Anna: well, lets get your bags and we'll be on our way.
Jeremy and his mother walked into the distance with an arm wrapped around each other.
Later in the car.....
Anna: alright we're all set?!
Jeremy: yep
Anna: long flight?
Jeremy: ugh tell me about it, this guy next to me wouldn't stop snoring.
Jeremy's mother lets out a slight giggle
Jeremy: it felt like forever, in just glad to be back on the ground again.
Anna: yeah you never really liked flying did you?
Jeremy: not in the slightest
Anna: awww well I'm glad you did it anyway.
There was a slight pause, awkward pause.
Anna: how's dad? Everything's good in Michigan?
Jeremy: good... good, dad hasn't changed much.
Anna: still the same asshole?
Jeremy: mom, seriously
Anna: i-I'm sorry, okay, its just... you know your father and I never really got along.
Jeremy: I know, just please don-
A sudden light flickered on Jeremy's phone.
Anna: who's that, your girlfriend???
*Jeremy chuckles*
Jeremy: noooo... do you remember that girl down the street that I used to hang out with before I moved to Michigan?
Anna: oh yeah, such a sweet girl. what was her name again? Alex? Amy?
Jeremy: Ally.... she just texted me to see if I wanted to catch up sometime.
Anna: oooooo you should hang out with her, she's really nice and you'll have someone to hang out with the next few days before school starts.
Jeremy: eh I don't know I feel like it'll be awkward, I have seen her since middle school.
Anna: soooo?
Jeremy: mom that was 5 years ago.
Anna: speaking of school you start your senior year on Monday.
The car arrives at the house. Anna stares at Jeremy with a tear rolling down her eye. Jeremy starts to grab his stuff.
Jeremy: come on mom, don't cry. We'll have a great year together.... ooo and I promise I'll visit you when I go to college.
Anna: I-I know it's just, it feels like it's been so long since I've seen you. You've been in Michigan with your father, i just... haven't got to see you as much as I used to.
Anna: wow, alright lets go inside, I have the room all set up for you.
Anna wipes a tear from her eye and proceeds to walk into the front door. Jeremy walks into his old room. It still has all of the action figures he collected growing up.
Jeremy: wow, thanks mom. Wha-you actually kept these?
Jeremy picks up one of the action figures and stares blankly at his mother
Anna:oh well I thought I'd keep the just as a memory of you.
Jeremy: that's very sweet mom but I don't play with these anymore.
Anna: oh okay, well I'll take them out I guess.
Anna takes the action figures and walks out the door. She walks out the door and turns around.
Anna: enjoy your room!
Jeremy: thanks
Jeremy starts to get himself situated in his new room. He put his pants in his old drawers and his shirts in his old closet. The old creaking of his room triggered his childhood memory. It all felt so familiar yet so different at the same time. Jeremy then muttered to himself....
Jeremy: last time I was here my parents actually got along.
