Orfeo was busy flipping through sheet music in his office. How was he supposed to know when to add violin or lyre? And yet he had been given the job, so he had to it.
maybe it was the Festival or the performance that was distracting him, but in his heart he knew the real reason. He couldn't get Alma out of his mind. He'd tried singing, playing music, volunteering, and yet he always had her image ensnared before his eyelids.
A woman suddenly burst through the doors of his office, looking frazzled but still somehow attractive. She had green eyes and sudden, red hair.
"Orfeo!" He jumped. "These people are protesting and you are writing music?"
"Well, yes it appears to be that way." He bit his lip and looked around his office, perhaps searching for another excuse.
Merrow sat down, and ran her fingers through her hair, which was slightly lopsided. "Anyway," she said heavily, "Do you want to go to the Festival of Neria with me?"
"Can't."
"Why not?" She flushed a brilliant crimson."Because I'm already going with someone."
"Who?""A girl I met at the opera house. "
"Who?" A plot formed in Merrow's head.
"Her name's Alma." He flipped his file over, and inspected some of La Rondine. He left it on top, so that he could show it to Alma later.
Relief filled Merrow. This was someone she knew about. This was someone that she could create.
"Not Alma Giudicelli? Seriously, Orfeo." She sat on his desk, desire coursing through her veins. Her heart screamed for mercy, for a kiss, a touch, anything.
"Yeah, that's her," His brow furrowed, "Why?"
""Oh, nothing, just something I read."
Her face was now close to his, and she was almost whispering.
"What was it about?"
"I won't ruin it for you. You'll find out. Gods help you if she doesn't tell you. " She slid off the polished desk, and exited the room, leaving her flowery scent all over the room.
