**2 Weeks Later**
Kevin received an email on his iPhone 4 and it was from Tom Sarmiento. The
email said "Congratulations Mr. Griner! You've made our 8th grade basketball
roster!" In brutal excitement, Kevin hopped up and down around his bedroom while
shaking his fists up and down. Kevin's mother, Lorie, also got the email and she
reacted the same way while she was practically racing to Kevin's room to
congratulate him. Kevin read the rest of the email which stated that Kevin must
attend practice that evening at 6:30. At that time, it was about 6 o'clock, so Kevin
quickly started gathering his basketball apparel that he received at his 13th birthday.
His outfit consisted of a wolf grey and orange Nike "Basketball Never Stops" shirt. To
compliment the shirt, was a pair of Team orange and blue NIKE KD basketball
shorts. Along with the shorts were a fresh pair of NIKE KD HYPERELITE socks that
were protected by a brand new pair of orange Nike LEBRON X slides. In his silver
KD backpack sat a pair of NIKEID custom neon orange and metallic silver KD VI
basketball shoes. Kevin usually wore his KD shoes for just playing ball outside or
playing at the YMCA. To be safe of the conditions of the shoe's traction, he scrubbed
the surface of both shoes so the level of traction would be greater.
On the way down the snow-packed stairs, Kevin's mother asked him if it was fine if
he could run go into the nearby Kwik Trip gas station to grab her a 12-pack of
Mountain Holler soda. Because of Kevin's strict ways towards his mother's weight,
he resisted to save her health. Only to think that his health is at more risk than his mother.
As Kevin walked out of the store with more than his mother had asked, unexpected
gunshots sounded nearby. In instinct, Kevin sprinted to his mother's Chrysler 300
immediately. Being the
protective mother that Laurie was, she began crying along with a few screams. Chaos
began spreading across the area. Seconds later, sirens began to sound closer and
closer. Looking down at his chest, Kevin saw a thick splatter of blood running
down his shirt from the left side of his chest. In shock, Kevin began breathing at an
inhumanly high rate. Every second, his breaths began to slow down more and
more until there was none.
Fatality can happen at anytime.
