"But all my friends are here mama!" I groaned.
"Your dad got a job in Polsa, Arkansas. It wouldn't do no good to stay here if he don't have a job now would it girl?" She said.
"I guess not." I said as my dad put the last box in the U-haul.
I sighed and took one last look at my house.
I climbed in the truck and put in my ear buds.
'Ocean Front Property by George Strait' came on and I bobbed my head to the beat.
I watched out the window as my hometown of De Rouge, Texas faded away.
I let a tear silently flow down my cheek.
I wiped it away and closed my eyes.
I drifted off to sleep and was awoken by my mom.
"We're gonna stop and eat then drive for a couple more hours then get a hotel somewhere." She said.
"Alright." I yawned out.
We pulled into Cracker Barrel quickly followed by my dad in the U-haul.
We walked in and ate.
I explored the gift shop while my dad paid.
I picked up a set of matching necklaces and read what they said.
One said, 'Apart in distance...'
The other said, 'But never by heart.'
I smiled and went to the counter.
I paid for them and walked out.
"What's got you cheesin'?" My mom asked.
"I got me and Levi matching necklaces so I can send one back to him." I said.
I showed them to her and she 'awe'd.
Levi is my best friend. Me and him have always been joined at the hip, spending every second with each other, from the time we were in diapers.
I put my ear buds in and focused on the driver in the car beside us, he was cute and he was dancing and singing.
I tried to make out what song he was singing.
He looked at me and I mouthed, 'What song is that?'
He motioned for me to roll the window down.
I rolled it down as he did the same.
I took my ear buds out.
I heard Hometown Girl by Josh Turner flowing through his truck speakers."That's a good song!" I screamed to him.
"I know. Call me." He said.
"I would but I don't have your number." I said, blushing.
He motioned for me to get out my phone.
I did and he said, "2. 7.8.4.5.0.3."
"What's your name?" I hollered back.
"Gatlin Freeman." He said.
I gasped and rolled my window up, waving at him.
"Who was that?" Mama asked.
"Julie Freeman's son. Damn he got hot." I said.
"Watch your mouth young lady."my mom teased.
"Damn, damn, damn, damn, DAMN!" I said with a smirk.
