"Do you want to go out with me?"
"No." I respond without even glancing at the boy.
"Oh, c'mon! That was the same answer last week!" He exclaimed and I smiled slightly.
"And it will be the same answer next week and the week after that." I pause in my actions and turn to face him.
"Simon, what do you not get when I say I don't date people? It's not that hard to understand." I grumble the last part and turn back to writing in my journal.
"I don't get it!" He exclaims again and I roll my eyes. This kid is relentless.
Simon suddenly came into my view and blocked me from the board that was in the front of the classroom.
"You are 17! You've never had a boyfriend in your life and I'm the closest to a friend that you've ever had. What are you hiding?" I scowl down at my paper and sigh at the fact that Simon will not let this go.
After a few moments of silence, he walked away.
I keep my gaze on the paper in front of me that was covered in doodles.
I really want to tell him but the consequences would be too great. I would go out on a date with him but that would be too much, considering that he would want it to be at night.
Glancing up I see my twin sister, Leilani, walk into the classroom.
"Noa! Hey! I have a question." She walks up to me and sets her binders down on the desk next to me. I wave my hand in a way of telling her to go ahead and ask.
"Would you rather fight ten zombie sized chickens or a thousand chicken sized zombies?" I stop in the middle of a drawing and look up at her.
"Why?"
"Just answer the question!" She looked like she was in a hurry so I said the first one I could remember.
"Ten zombie sized chickens." My sister then looked at me like I suddenly grew two heads.
"That's stupid." I dropped my pen and glared at her.
"Why did you even ask in the first place?" Leilani sighed and brushed a curly strand out of her hazel eyes.
"I just wanted to see what your answer was." I rolled my eyes and went back to doodling.
"Hey," I glance up at her to see that she was glancing off to the side, obviously apprehensive about what she's about to say.
"I need you to do me a favor." I stop my drawing and turn to fully face my twin.
"Jake needs a babysitter for his little sister." I furrow my eyebrows because I think I know where this is going.
"And I told him you could do it." She said so fast that I almost didn't catch the sentence. Almost.
"No." Leilani looked like someone just ran over her cat.
"Please! It'll be before the sun goes down! You'll be fine I promise."
"No. You know I can't do that Leilani. I physically can't. Unless your boyfriend wants his little sister dead." I grumble the last sentence and Leilani shoved my shoulder, making the pencil go across my sketch.
"Are you kidding me?" I slam my pencil down on the paper and glare at my ten minute older sister.
"I'm sorry. Seriously. But this is really important to me and you're only thinking of yourself!" That's it! I stand up abruptly and jut my finger in my sisters face.
"Oh shut up Leilani! I'm not thinking of myself!" I sigh and try to keep my temper down.
"You wouldn't know how it feels to loose control when the sun goes down and the moon goes up. You wouldn't know how it feels to literally have fire running through your veins for twelve hours. You wouldn't know the pain and torture I have to go through every night. You may be my twin sister, but there are some things about me that you don't understand." I rant in a low voice so only she could hear.
"I just-" I cover my face and groan.
"It's not like you're a freaking werewolf." She mumbled and I look through my fingers.
No.
What I am is a lot worse.
