I arrived at the all boys camp in downtown Chicago. I'm here. I'm ready to start my new life.
As I started approaching the camp I saw many other people, specifically boys in suits being dropped off by their parents. I was probably the only one that came alone and I was pretty under dressed; casual tee, ripped jeans, black levi coat and white spearys. I didn't think about it too much though, because I never really cared for first impressions based off appearance. I brought my attention back to the huge building in front of me. There as far as I can see, was 4 different parts to the camp. Its called a camp, but it looks more like an academy to me also the system seems like one to besides the mandatory physical activities we must take part in.
I walked up the several steps until I walked in the entrance and saw a lot more boys in here than outside. I don't like people. Never have. Since I was little and my mom thought I actually had a phobia, but eventually I started warming up it just takes me a lot longer than the normal shy person. All of these people made me unease for a bit like the feeling when you just want to be in the comfort of your own home with your mom. Yeah that feeling. I wasn't going to let it get to me though. This was the time to start my new life and be as far away as possible from my mom and brother. I love them, but it was my time to be myself and independent.
All of us, what look like a good 130 to 150 boys where in this huge lobby that had to have been half a football field. Four different stair cases, one all the way to the right same on the left and two in the middle dressed with red velvet carpets. Two chandeliers hung above us and along the walls where paintings complimenting everywhere you look. History of the all boys camp lied on each wall and if you knew nothing of the camp you get the whole home run in a matter of 5 minutes in the lobby. There where long beautiful couches on each side of the lobby with black and white desk that held booklets which I assume where for guest or people touring the camp. There was a front desk that held a banner above it stating "Camp Services." No one was there which probably meant it was closed. Behind the stair cases there was another area with the whole wall a window. It was so beatiful looking out into the huge field and other surrounding buildings. I can definitely get use to this scenery. As I continue to look around I notice that every door way said "DO NOT ENTER NEW RECRUITS." Most likely there for the stuents that didnt get the memo to stay in the lobby until the end of arrival time.
As all of us where gathering with suitcases and bags quickly feeling the room it hit noon. Everyone fortunate enough to be here better be here, because noon was the arrival time and anyone late would show the worst first impression. You see, me being the only boy not wearing a suit right now is a little wierd I guess I didn't get the dress code, but thats just looks. If someone was to turn up late that shows a lack of responsibilty not a lack of fashion sense. The huge group of boys and I where brought out of our awe and thoughts when two men and a women came out. Dressed in all red, white and black; the camp colors. One of the men that stood in the middle of the lobby in between the staircases that fell towards the majority of us stood tall. He looked like a blooming 6 feet and 5 inches and muscular. He gave off an authortative aura making most of us fall to submission just by sight. He looked like about early thirties, with a fresh cut beard. You can tell when you're a guy. Straight back, expensive watch, perfect hair and crystal white teeth. If anything he looked like a million dollars.
The men that stood next to him whisper something in his ear and then steady on to the left side of the lobby by the stair case. The women with him did the same, but to the right of the lobby. The man in middle who I assumed was the President looked down on us and began his introduction speech.
"Hello, Hello gentleman," he began with a stern face and tone. The lobby fell silent and directed all their attention to him. He continued, "I'm honored to be your president and bring you the traits of what it takes to be a man of leadership in society throughout your very short journey here!" Everyone applaud.
"I would like to present you my right hand man, Felix Mustrowski, or what you would be calling him Mr. M." he said while properly swaying his hand towards the guy by the stair case. He stood tall just like the president, with a sturdy built and serious eyes. Mr. M didnt wave or anything just looked with the same stern face and nodded to the group of us. "And on the right of the room is my Assistant, Stephanie Jones, or Mrs. Jones." the president said while repeating his same gesture. I was a bit confused here, because if its an all boy camp, then why is there a women here? She waved giving a generous smile, I think to ease the tension and confusion in the room. She was quit beautiful standing in tall black heels that brought her discilpined posture. Dressed in a red and white suit that brought out her melanin complexion. Her short hair was curled and pinned on the side that made it bounce when she waved. As far as I can see she was pretty petite, but an "I can handle myself" petite.
"Now most of you may be confused, but women do work here as assistants and teachers so you will not being seeing men all day." The president stated bringing everyone attention back to him. "You all in this room in some shape or form attracted our attention and earned a spot in this camp. Over 10,000 people applied and look around you. You are looking at the best bunch of 'em." He assured while gesturing his arms to the crowd. "You where not randomly chosen and this wasn't just good luck. We evaluated for months as to who has potential to keep up with our academics and physical requirements." Seemed like bullshit to me, because I played no sports and was pretty small compare to the rest of the guys here. The closest thing I get to physical activity is running when I'm stress. Whatever I'm here anyways.
"Today and the day you graduate will be your only days of rest within this camp. Today, the men with the last names A-M will go up the stair case to the left with Felix. And the people with the last name N-Z will go with Miss Stephanie Jones on the right. They'll take care of you, if you have any questions ask them." He said with a reassuring smile.
A click and the sound of a door opening directed most of our attention to the boy coming through the entrance. Not dressed in a suit which made me feel worse, because he came late. Who comes late to one of the most popular and difficult camps you have to get into. He had his hair in a beanie and from the looks of it it looked like it was in a man bun perhaps. He also had on sunglasses a white tee with a blue denim jacket and ripped denim jeans. All in all he looked unprofessional more unprofessional than me considering we were both the only guys in the room not in a suit.
"Can we help you?" Mrs. Jones asked in a curious tone.
"I'm a new recruit, sorry im late traffic is a bitch when you're coming from Californina to chicago." he said in a unapolgetic tone. I was a little shocked that he said that to our superior, but i guess he couldnt read the mood. "You sir, can go up the elvator to your right and up to the third floor continue down the hallway until you come to a door and stand there and wait until we adults are finished here." The president said with a stern face and an obvous attitude. The boy did as he was told, so im guessing he read the mood by now.
"Like i was saying some will go with Mr. M and some with Mrs. Jones to get situated. All questions can be asked by them as well. Also, due to that little interruption of that new recruit a punishment will be ensured. Instead of settling in when you find your bunks drop your bags, you have 5 minutes to change and then a 10 mile run."
Great. I couldn't believe this. Who did that guy think he was arriving almost a half hour late and making us pay for it? I don't really mind the running, but at the same time I wanted to relax after that long uber ride to this damn academy. In a sense I guess it was the presidents way to show that our actions will have consequences not only just for you, but for everyone.
