People running. Children screaming. Wings flapping. Creatures Growling.
I woke up, sweat trickling down my spine, gasping for breath and clutching my rainbow polkadot bed covers. It was just a dream. Just a dream, but the truth is I have been having to tell myself this every morning for as long as I can remember.
Annoyed at myself; I climb out of bed and put on my favourite jeans and woolen sweatshirt.
"Lottie, breakfast!"
Just another day in the Whitstake household. Chocolate shreddies in warm milk and freshly squeezed orange juice from our ancient tree in the back garden. Oranges don't tend to grow in Britain, Devon but our tree has, allegedly, been faithfully providing oranges for our family for at least 30 years. Maybe mum just has a green thumb, very unlikely because even the daffodils don't last a week.
Downstairs it smells like bacon, urrg, I hate bacon especially since I am registered vegi, although it can be annoying being the only one in the family. Its not too bad as Dads a professional chef, currently hired at the village pub. The only downside is him testing out new vegetarian options for the menu and since he is not one gets me to check. Some of them aren't to bad, like the raison nutloaf he cooked the other week, wouldn't have it again though.
"Hey sweetie, You ready for school? get enough revising done last night?
Uhhhh no but I would never tell her that as she believes I spend all my time in my room revising for my dreaded GCSEs. I'm not. More like reading my life away on the kindle they bought me for my 16 birthday last year.
"Yep and yep!"
Feeling guilty I continue with my breakfast. It doesn't matter I'm doing fine at school, cant wait to get there! Not.
Last week I had to survive the humility of spilling my books all over the hall and having to get the cleaner to help me pick all the sheets up so I wasn't late. No one had offered to help me that day. But then again I never have been the pretty one ore popular one,not with my dark brown messy waves and dull blue eyes. Yes I'm tall but thats about it as I don't have any cleavage or hips at this point so no wander nobody spares me a second glance.
