My heart beats faster as we get closer to my new school.

"Do I really have to go papa? Can't I just drop out and become a stripper?" I say turning to my stepdad, John.

"Sweetie as proud as your mom and I would be if you did," he turns and smiles at me, "you actually have to go to school."

I look back out the window and see that we're pulling into the parking lot. We park and walk into the office.

"Hello officer....Pad-ek-e-li? What can I do for you?"

"Padalecki, I'm here because it's this young lady's first day here and she needs her schedule." He smiles and puts his hands on my shoulders.

"Ah, I see now what's your name sweetie?" She opens a drawer and waits for my name.

"Avery. Jane Avery"

"Avery... Avery... Jane," she whispers to herself, "aha, found it. Here you go dear." She hands me a piece of paper filled with classes i'm sure i'll be lost in. Yay?

"I can call someone to help you find your classes if you want?"

"Yes please, that would be wonderful thank you." I say smiling. She picks up the phone and dials a number.

"Hello? Yes, Hi can you send Victoria Pratt to the office I need her to escort a new student around campus, Jane Avery...Okay..Bye." She hangs up the landline and tells me to sit and wait. My dad looks at me with sympathetic eyes. He puts his hands on my shoulders and makes me look into his grey eyes.

"Sorry this is how you have to start but I have to go to the station, it's getting late. You'll be fine here today right?" I nod and smile to him. He kisses my forehead and leaves. A few minutes later I hear footsteps coming towards where I am so I stand up and grab my stuff.

A girl with long grey hair and black eyes sees me and says, "Are you Jane? Hi, I'm Veronica. You can call me Vee." She smiles and reaches her hand out and I smile and shake it politely.

"Hi, yes I am. It's nice to meet you Vee," I said still smiling. We start walking slowly towards the hallway filled with dark grey lockers.

"You too, can i see your schedule do see which locker is yours?"

"Oh it's," I take a second to look, "251."

Her smile fades a little and all Vee could let out was a quiet, "Oh."

"Is everything okay?" I said cautiously, what's wrong with locker 251?

"Oh it's nothing," Vee said, "Its just last year, there was this boy named Jason. He was on the football team, captain actually. He was super kind and a total gentleman. Jason and I started dating and it was amazing. One day we went to Pop's and," She stops and looks at me and sees the confused look on my face.

She laughs and says, "and by the look on your face you don't know what Pop's is right?"

"Not a clue."

"It's a diner, it's fairly close to here but it's not very popular. Anyways we were there on a date and this guy comes in with a gun, screaming, asking for money. Jason stood up with his hands up to try and help poor old Pop, but ended up getting shot." She looks down, trying to hide her tears.

She sniffs and wipes them away. She looks back up and me and smiles.

"Here it is, I haven't been here since that day... He didn't make it," she said looking at his locker.

"I'm sorry." I say while pulling her into a hug to try and make her feel better. Yeah we don't know each other at all but she lost her boyfriend to a stupid guy with a gun. I may be mean sometimes but i'm not just gonna stand here and do nothing.

She pulled away and wiped her tears, "Its alright," she smiles. "Let's go to your first hour, meet me by your locker so i can show you to your next class."

"Okay."

We start walking and we continue to talk about ourselves, getting to know each other. I think I just made a friend. Maybe moving here won't be so bad.
