The initial awkwardness that set in after Kelsey had the balls to ask for a ride, went away swiftly after a few introductions. Granted it was mostly Nathan talking, seeing as I refused to speak one word until I got a chance to speak to him alone. With the hand resting comfortably on the small of my back, Nathan leads us towards the rear of the bus for more privacy. The quiet girlish laughter and the loud exuberance of the two blondes up front put a small smile on my face. Glancing around slowly, my eyes take in each member of this band as they sit comfortably on their custom bus. Harry is towards the left, large headphones hang loosely around his neck, while his white Iphone is pressed tightly to his ear. As though he can feel my gaze, he shoots a quick wink my way before turning his attention back to his phone.

Behind Harry sits Zayn, and his eyes never meet mine. His honey colored eyes take in the scenery around us, while his small white ear buds rest peaceful in his head. A small bit of disdain rises in me as I look at the man sitting there. Zayn did call my brother “Chlamydia Boy” granted it was “Friendly Banter” but you just don’t share that shit. The way fame changed people will continue to astound me for the rest of my pathetic days.

Looking past Nathans shoulder, my eyes land on the final two. Louis and Liam sit huddle close together, eyeing our passing bodies and looking at the front of the bus towards Kelsey. Their gazes aren’t kind, nor are they completely rude either. They’re suspicious, as they well should be. Nathan is a rival band member, though this isn’t a gang war or anything; People are just always on edge when a new threat takes hold.

By the time I finish looking and scrutinizing everyone, we have reached the back of the bus and I robotically sit down. Crossing my left leg over my right, my attention is now completely on Nathan. His shoulders are tense, his eyes are tired, his nostrils are flared, but when he grasps my hands Nathan is gentler than I could have ever imagined.

“Rebbeca, what are you doing here? Kelsey said something about going to Tom’s flat? What’s this all about?” When he finally speaks his voice sounds strained and feels exhausted. That’s when I finally decide to look at the boy I’ve been living with for two months, and am astounded at what I see.

The bright green eyes that used to burn with an eternal flame have now dimmed, only to be replaced by sadness and exhaustion. His cheeks have sunken in, showing the amount of weight he’s lost since this whole escapade has begun. The once smooth and plump pink lips have now turned a shade of gray, looking painfully chapped as his tongue runs quickly over them. The bus moves at a steady speed, not slowly nor fast enough to cause too much of a jerk when the light indicates for us to stop.

Slowly untangling our hands, a quick flash of pain crosses his face which is replaced immediately with indifference. Blinking slowly, my hands move on their own accord to cup his cheeks. The difference in our skin tones strikes a bit of warmth into my heart, knowing that he’s at least been in the sun recently. Beneath my cold palms, the warmth that begins to spread to Nathan’s cheeks is heartwarming. Giving a sullen smile, I ask him something that I would have never thought to ask him.

“Nathan, how are you?”

A ghost of a smile appears on his face, and a weight seems to be lifted off of his tired shoulders. The eyes what were so lifeless just a second ago are now beginning to brighten up once again. Nathans large piano hands rest comfortable over mine while he leans into my grasp. Those beautiful green eyes flutter shut, while his voice comes in a scratchy whisper. “If you only knew that half of it Becc’s.”

Before we could talk anymore, the bus comes to a steady stop. Our eyes stayed locked while the others disembark from the vehicle. Gently Nathan takes my hands in his and pulls us into a standing position. Standing side by side, he interlocks our fingers and begins to pull us towards the front of the bus, not once looking away from my now smiling face.

“Are you serious right now? Why am I the one who has to always do the dirty work. . .  Make Malik do it, he’s smaller than I am!” Yeah, that’s me arguing with the seven people who are standing around a small doggie door. At first I questioned why the One Direction lads had decided to come along for this adventure. Now I’m on the side of making anyone go through that door other than me.

“Listen here, I refuse to go through that door. Now I say since this was your idea anyway, you automatically have to go through. It’s only protocol” Zayn mocks while pointing in my direction and smirking the whole time. Granted this way my idea, though I thought Kelsey would have at least been smart enough to bring a key or something. Unfortunately though, she claims she “left it in the kitchen of my flat.” How fucking wonderful.

“Listen Rebbeca, just go through the stupid door and I’ll take ya out yeah?” Niall says with a cheeky smile. Though his voice was light with a comical air, Nathan protectively put his arm around me. This gets a small chuckle out of Niall, while I gaze at the small door. Leaning my head against Nathan’s shoulder, I close my eyes while my head falls down in a nod. For some reason, I had just agreed to crawl through a dog door for the sake of my friend’s relationship… This is going to be interesting.

“Kelsey you owe me…”

After about seven minutes of squeezing through the small door, all of us are in the flat with the flip on. Giving the flip to Nathan, Kelsey leads us to where Tom usually keeps all of his mail; which happens to be on a small wooden desk near the living room. The pile on top of that table is ridiculous!

The house that Tom and Kelsey shared is your average London town house. Narrow hall ways, with closed doors hiding the rooms from wandering eyes. The walls are a very light blue, almost white if the light hits it correctly. It smells of cinnamon and mint, which mix well together in this instance. The living area and kitchen are very modern, with just a touch of rustic flare that seems to warm the home just enough to make it completely comfortable.

“You’re expecting us to sort through all this mail, just to find a stupid letter? You’re joking right?” The way Louis spoke, he sounded more bored than interested in anything we were doing. Turning sharply in his direction, I narrow my eyes and give him a very curt shake of my head, “I’m not expecting you to do anything Tomlinson. We just asked for a ride, not your help. The door is right over there.” I say smugly while shooting my thumb over my shoulder in the direction of the door. The room gets quiet as we stare each other down, until Kelsey’s excited squeal breaks our war.

“I FOUND IT! Becc’s come here!!” Grabbing the flip from a perplexed Nathan, I rush to where Kelsey is hovering over a pink piece of paper. The handwriting on it is definitely female, you can just tell that some chick wrote this. Squinting slight I begin to read the letter out loud,

Dear Kelsey,

As you know, Thomas hasn’t always been the most faithful. What can you say though? He is a sexy boyband member that really shouldn’t be held down by a relationship. Anyway, I’m sending you this cute letter to inform you that Tom cheated on you… With me! Yeah, he said I’m a better fuck than you… Sorry if that bums you out a bit.

Sincerely, C.

“Well it’s pretty obvious she’s American.” I say while rereading the line that drew my attention. Before anyone could ask why I open my mouth to explain but Liam beats me to it. “Well of course, instead of saying cheeky like any English girl would, she said cute. That’s an American thing to say.” Turning in his direction I nod in agreement before turning back towards Kelsey with a small smile on my face.

“Who’s the only other American we know, that would have no issue pulling a trick like this? And with a name starting with a ‘C’?”

It takes her a minute before her features darken and a snarl forms on her lips.

“Chrissy”
