Edd sighed, looking around for something, anything to keep himself occupied. Unfortunately, the only thing in house worth attention was the mess of empty cola cans and discarded paper plates.
He sighed. He supposed he could go out for a while. Maybe buy a sketch pad or something.
He opened the door, squinting at the bright afternoon sun.
He hadn't been out in a while.
Allowing himself a small smile, he headed down the street.

Edd readjusted the sketch book in his arms. It was pretty big. Should last for two weeks at least.
He marched down the sidewalk, determined to get home and fill this thing.

Not paying attention, the toe of his tennis shoe caught on a crack in the pavement. He put out his hands to catch himself, dropping the sketch book several feet in front of him.

"Fffff.... ow." He sat up, rubbing a scrape on his elbow.

He stared at his sketch book, which now laid open, a few pages scattered around the ground.

"Damnit."

Standing, he collected the ruined papers off the ground. He started for the book itself when something caught his eye. He was standing in front of an old building. More like shack.
He tilted his head, he didn't remember seeing that before.
A wooden sign was nailed to the door.

'Curious Curios for the Cultured. That's a mouth full.' Edd thought to himself. Glancing back at the sketchbook, he shrugged.
Drawing could wait until he checked this out.
He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked up the porch.
He grabbed hold of the old brass doorknob and opened the shack.

His nose immediately scrunched up at the scent. It smelled like rotting wood, old paint, and bleached fur coats. He coughed a couple times, staring around at the interior.

Old furniture and paintings were everywhere. He stepped further inside. Maybe there would be something useful in here.

He brushed a finger along an old shelf, collecting dust. He grimaced and wiped his hand on his pant leg. He went deeper into the shop, watching as old items got even creepier looking. More Victorian looking.
He soon came across a relatively clean section.
There was an old rug on the floor and a padded chair with one of those tall backs you see in the movies sitting in the corner. But the most notable thing was the giant wooden dresser in the middle.
It had a porcelain brush with a little rose painted on it off to one side. On the other side was a glass bowl with a pitcher inside it. And in the middle was a small handheld mirror.

Edd tilted his head, walking up to the dresser. He lifted the mirror with ease, looking at his reflection in the slightly warped glass. He noted the dark circles under his eyes and his matted chocolate brown hair. He frowned. His normally chubby cheeks were gaunt. He needed to start taking care of himself again.

Edd sighed, starting to put the mirror back on the dresser. He hesitated. He didn't exactly have a mirror at his house. Tom had broken it before he left. Plus, he felt strangely drawn to the mirror.

"Wonder what it costs..." He thought aloud.

"Oh, that's not for sale."

Edd jumped and turned around.
An old lady stood hunched over. Her white hair resting limply on her shoulders.

"O-oh hi!" Edd stuttered.

The woman ignored his greeting. "You wouldn't want him anyway. A bad one that is. Why don't you come look at the ladies?" She said, gesturing at a rack of mirrors along the wall.

They might've been pretty, but they didn't give Edd the same feeling as the one on the dresser. And wait-

"Did you give genders to the mirrors?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Of course I did." The woman scoffed at him as if he was crazy for not understanding. "What kind of antique owner doesn't? Now put him down, boy."

Edd's frown deepened.
"Why?"

"Because he's not for sale."

Edd squirmed, the lady's refusal made him want the mirror more.
"But I'm willing to pay-"

"It isn't about the money, boy! I assure you you don't want this one."

"Actually, I do." Edd stuck out his jaw, determined to get the trinket.

The woman scowled, but then a look flashed across her face. As if she had a clever idea. "Very well. You can have him. Free of charge."

Edd grinned. "Thank you-"

"But on one condition. You will never, not ever, bring him back. Got it?"

Edd scratched the back of his neck. "Uh... yeah, sure..."

"Good. Now shoo!"
She ushered him and the mirror out the door. "Good riddance to the both of you!" She slammed the door behind him.

Edd shook his head slowly and glanced at the mirror. A smile spread across his face.
Still smiling, he headed down the street. Sketchbook long forgotten.
