Atticus's POV
Marigold has been staying with me for quiet a while, she's settled in really nicely. She's still extremely sweet but she's more comfortable. Tonight we have a huge fancy (rather dumb) ball tonight. It's for a fundraiser for a great cause, that's not the dumb part to me. I just don't like being surrounded by so many rich people.
That's one of the reasons I like Marigold so much. She's so different and yet still gets along with me so well. I bought her a gorgeous dress and shoes and jewelry, and really the whole nine yards for tonight. She's never been to one of these things so I want it to be amazing for her, I just hope it's not too boring. I go downstairs to see if Marigold is up yet. She's sitting on the couch, curled up in a blanket. She's wearing my shirts, as she always does; I've bought her some but she just loves mine so I let her take them. She's reading a book. She's so cute.
"Hey, are you hungry?" I ask her.
"A little" she says with a slight shrug.
"Well come join me for breakfast and then you can finish your book later" I say.
"Okay" She says smiling softly as she sets her book down on the coffee table, and stands up. I grab her hand. We go eat and afterwards I decide to tell her about what I bought her.
"Oh so you know that ball tonight to raise money for charity? I got you some stuff for it"
"What? You didn't have to do that, you've already gotten me so much," she says looking at me, she doesn't like when I get her things but I enjoy spoiling her.
"I love spoiling you though please accept the stuff I got you for today" I say giving her puppy dog eyes.
"Finneee'" she says pouting slightly and looking up at me. I smile at her.
"Yay" I say and I kiss her forehead. We go eat breakfast and then I take her to my room to give her the dress and stuff. I have the dress hanging up on my close.Marigold's POV
I stand in front of the mirror. I'm all dressed up. The dress is gorgeous, and it fits me perfectly. It hugs all of my curves and I love the color. It's a long sliver dress that has slits on the sides. The top is covered in sparkles. It has a low V-neck. The bottom is layers of different shades of grey and it's just so gorgeous. It is gorgeous. I did simple eyes with a dark red lip and my hair is messy but elegant. I love it all. I can't believe he spent this much on me. He's the best guy I've ever met. He comes and knocks on my door.
"Hey are you ready?"
I nod opening the door, and looking up at him.
"What do you think?" I ask looking down at myself.
"You're stunning" he says smiling at me. I blush deeply and smile up at him.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yes really" he says. "You're gonna be the prettiest girl there" l giggle softly and smile up at him.
"Thanks.." I mumble shyly. Kaylie comes into the room. She has on a short short black dress and her hair in curls. She has a half ton of makeup on her face.
"Atticus darling how do I look?!" She ask hanging all over him. "Do I look good enough for you to want me?" She asks messing with his tie. He rolls his eyes.
"Kaylie you're suppose to be in uniform tonight"
"But Atticus!" She whines giving him puppy dog eyes.
"We are going to be late.." I mumble looking up at Atticus, even with my heels on he's still extremely tall. Atticus pushes Kaylie away and grabs my hand.
"Let's go" Atticus says.
"No! You can't go with her! What about me Atticus!" Kaylie says.
"Kaylie I think it's time you left"
"No way!"
"Kaylie. You either leave now and come back in your uniform and being professional tomorrow or never again. You pick."
"Atticus.....can't you tell I love you!" She says and starts 'crying'.
"I don't love you Kaylie. That's the end of the story. That's it. No ifs ands or buts. Your my employee."
"Whatever!" She screams and leaves slamming the door behind her. Atticus rubs his forehead.
"She is such a headache sometimes" he mumbles.
"Are you ready?" I ask as I rub his hand with my thumb to try and comfort him.
"Yeah lets go" he says smiling at me and guiding me out of the room. I smile back as we walk downstairs and he leads me outside where he has a limousine waiting on the two of us. We get the the place rather quickly The whole place is decorated very fancily.
"What do you think? Does it look nice?"
"It's gorgeous." I say in awe. He smiles.
"Yay if you thinks it's pretty that's all I care about" he says sounding proud of himself. He's one of the people who helped put on the ball. We go inside and there is a lot of people but out of all the people I notice my father. I quickly hide behind Atticus. I haven't seen him since I was 15 and I ran away. I suddenly see my step mother walking over to him.
"Where are we sitting?" I ask Atticus while still hiding behind him.
"I don't care. Are you okay?" He asks and he turns to look at me. He looks concerned.
"I um.. yeah I'm fine" I say shaking my head as I grab his hand holding his arm and hand close to my chest. He pets my hair gently.
"Are you sure? We can leave if you're uncomfortable" he says. I nod.
"No this is important for you.. I just thought I saw someone I knew" I say looking up at him. I flash him a fake smile. "Let's find some seats"
