It's a dreary day in Brighton when you rise up from your bed to look out the bedroom window. At 9 am it was already gray and rainy, and by the looks of the sky it doesn't seem like it will end anytime soon. You walk downstairs in a t-shirt and shorts to your kitchen to start coffee and breakfast while being careful not to wake up your boyfriend, Seán, who was peacefully snoring on the left side of the bed.
Once your feet hit the cold kitchen tiles, all you wanted was a steaming hot cup of coffee to help you start your day off right. You filled the keurig coffee machine with water and popped in the coffee pod. Before hitting the start button, you picked out your favorite mug which is in the shape of a Minecraft creeper's face. With your mug ready, you press the start button and watch the warm coffee pour out of the machine. The keurig eventually stops dispensing the liquid and you add a bit of milk and sugar to the mug to make it taste like heaven on Earth.
You stand at the counter for a few minutes just scrolling through your phone and enjoying your coffee while soaking in the peacefulness of the morning. After about two minutes you decide to listen to your growling stomach and prepare some scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast. While standing over the stove and cracking the first egg, you go over your mental to-do list for today. "Well first I need to stop at the store to pick up some groceries for this week. Then I need to head over to the post office to send out my niece's birthday present. " you say to yourself. You take a moment to look around the kitchen; dirty dishes, and food wrappers from last night's snack and movie night lay around the counter and dining table. "I should probably also give the kitchen a good clean up today" you add. Suddenly, you remember the most important thing on your list. "Shit! I can't forget to work on that biology paper that's due next week. My professor will have my ass on a platter if I turn it in late " you think to yourself as you finish cooking the eggs. As you transfer your freshly cooked eggs from the pan to your plate, you hear footsteps trudge into the kitchen.
"Well good morning, Sunshine!" you say cheerfully to Seán. He gives you a soft smile and a quiet "Hi" in a raspy voice while making his way over to the keurig machine to get some coffee, or "dirty bean water" as he calls it. He shuffles across the kitchen in a white t-shirt, blue pyjama pants, and a pair of black socks. His hair is a messy, brown wreck that's piled on top of his head. You giggle to yourself and say, "Your hair makes you look like you just woke up in a tornado." With his back turned to you he groans and asks, "Yea? Well maybe I just like this look. It's real hip with the kids these days, ya know." Seán takes a sip of his freshly brewed bean water and makes his way over to where you're standing. You turn your head to face him and tell him there's still some eggs leftover from your breakfast, and he's welcome to have them. He gives you a kiss on the cheek and a quick "thank you" as he scoops the remaining eggs onto a plate.
You and Seán sit at the table and you tell him your plans for today. He gives you a confused look and replies with, "But you're not really gonna do all that today right? I think it's better if you just stay in bed with me all day so we can watch Netflix and cuddle. It's the perfect day for a snuggle date." You look out a nearby window to see that the rain showers are still pouring outside. He's right, it is the perfect day for a snuggle date, but you're determined to get you errands done today. Shaking your head back and forth, you say, "Hun, I'd give up my left kidney to have a lazy day with you, but I have to get this stuff done. If I don't, I'll get so behind on everything that I'll struggle to just catch back up" but he just gave you a childish frown before an idea popped into his brain. "How about this: you stay and cuddle with me today, and tomorrow I'll help you do all those chores. If we do it together we'll get it done, like, twice as fast!" You roll your eyes and give him a grin. "Maybe he's right. Teamwork does make the dream work, right?" you think to yourself. "Ok. Fine. But you have to promise me we'll get all of it done tomorrow. And I mean all of it! Promise?" Suddenly, Seán's face lights up like a Christmas tree. "Yes! I totally, absolutely, 100 percent promise!" He drops his fork onto the counter and shouts, "Let the cuddle fest begin!" He grabs your hand and pulls you toward the stairs. "Hey wait!" you shout. "I can't start my day without a shower! Can I meet you in bed after I finish my shower?" you ask. "Only if I can join you." Seán replies.
