Past VS Present

It was a sunny afternoon. The sun shines brightly behind the glass, windowpanes. The ventilation of the Cafeteria helped me find an escape from the blistering heat of the sun. My meal was in my table, waiting for me to eat it, and I have a company of empty chairs beside me.

I am drenched in my train of thoughts when a manly voice suddenly lifted me out from my reverie.

"Hi. Can I sit with you?" a boy of my age asked. He is wearing the same boy's uniform in our school, although he made it look like a designer outfit. He has a tousled up hair. He has a pair of deep hazel brown eyes, a perfectly chiseled nose, and a pair of smiling, plumpish lips.

I nodded as I motioned him to sit across my table.

"I'm Ivan Troy Mendez. You are?" he said as he offered his hand for a handshake.

"What do you want me to do with your hand?" I asked as my forehead creased for a frown.

"U-uhm," he stuttered as he scratched the back of his head with shame.

"I want us to be friends. That's why," he declared as I tried to suppress a laugh.

Troy's Point of View

It was a Sunday afternoon. I decided to take a walk to the park. It has always been my safe haven when I was still a kid. I used to be there every time I craved for a time for myself. The Narra tree planted in the secluded area of the park has been my own territory of comfort.

I sauntered towards the area and sat comfortably at the bench under the tree's cool shade. I was enjoying its calming company when I heard soft sobs from the distance. By the softness of her voice, I can perfectly tell that she is one of my acquaintances. For years, I've never been so mindful about other people's businesses not until today. I actually didn't care if she flood the whole park with her tears, but the sound of her sobs made me feel otherwise. I just found myself leaning my head closer to hear her clearly.

"You are so unfair, Allen! You left me without notice. What do you think of me, a random girl who doesn't need to be informed about your whereabouts?" she cried as she complained for something so unfair in her part.

Men. It's not new to me. She's not the only girl who had her heart broken just because for a man. I suddenly feel pity towards her.

"Two years had passed since you left me yet the pain you caused to me is still as fresh as it was two years ago. I can't believe I'm still crying for your absence." She continued. Her voice is trembling.

I don't want to listen further anymore, that's why I opted for the best solution I knew at this moment. I don't even know why it pains me seeing her in a situation as hopeless as this. Without thinking twice, I walked towards her and sat beside her.

"Hey, are you ok—" My words hung in the mid-air when she suddenly hugged me tight. I hugged her back and rubbed my palm against her back. Her sobs grew louder and I can feel her tears dripping in my shirt. I was too absorbed by her cries that I didn't even notice that we stayed in that position for an hour.
