Evan expected to see a monstrous figure standing before him, but is surprised to see nothing there. He lowers his arms and looks around the empty basement, but doesn't see anything. Finally, he says "H-hello?" He waits a few seconds but hears nothing. He slips into bed and hides under his small, torn, and thin blanket and tries to forget it happened. A minute or two passes and he slowly pulls it off his head and looks one last time and starts to think all those beatings he took to his head are finally starting to affect him. He looks at his wall and hears a calm voice behind him say "Hi, Evan!" The friendly tone in the voice made him feel unusually relaxed. He turns around and sees nothing there. "I'm going insane", he says in his mind. He sits against the wall and decides to just go with it. "Who are you?" He asks very plainly. "That's not very polite, I don't think. You're supposed to introduce yourself before asking a lady her name!" She responds, giggling. He thinks for a moment, and says "I'm Evan. I would like to know what your name is."
After that, he realizes he's talking to, what he thinks, is a ghost, a devil, the basement, or himself. Either way, he pinches himself to see if he's dreaming. Definitely not dreaming. "My name is Celine. I've been watching you since your father had left." He tried to say something, but he coughs and swallows the excess saliva in his mouth, and loudly asks "Where did you come from? Why are you talking to me now? What do you want with me?" He expected a quick response, but it took Celine a moment to reply. "I thought you needed my help. I guess you were only able to hear me call you today because it's Christmas. The last day of the year. I don't know why, I just feel like that would make sense."
Evan buries his face into his knees and starts to over-think what Celine had just said. "S-so I won't be able to talk to you, aft- after Christmas is over...?" He says in a shaky voice. The only voice he ever heard in his life that isn't from someone from his family isn't going to be able to talk to him until next Christmas after tonight. That's how Evan saw it. "I didn't say I was sure about that. I just said I thought it would make sense. By the by, I didn't answer that other question of yours. I'm here because I wanted to help you. You seemed to have been having trouble with your life, and I don't want you to end up like a rat, eating moldy old food off the dirty sidewalk. That would be very unfavorable." He looks up from his knees and the room is pitch black for a second, and then the next, a small light appears in the center of the room.
He smiles as tears roll down his face. Celine, who seems to be a young girl that is of the same height, and preferably the same age, wants to help him. He looks down at his feet and pushes himself up and tries to look at the light again, but instead, a young girl with golden yellow hair and ocean blue eyes appears before him in nothing but green gown. The dim candle light returns as hers fades away. Evan just has his mouth open in awe, thinking he found an angel. She holds out her hand and says "Are you ready to go, Evan?"
