Lee's words boiled my blood. The need to prove his ass wrong and the will to win this race, was the only thing that moved me. The adrenaline started to kick in as I started Daniel's Subaru BRZ, which roared wildly, making the crowd once again cheer for us. I raced on Devil's Point, the most difficult race track to ever exist in the state. With the tricky curves and the huge boulders or giant rocks which constantly fell over the track, making it harder for any racer to step onto that track, let alone race upon it. But I mastered it. Knew the track almost like the back of my hand.
I don't see why I possibly couldn't win this race. However, the route was unfamiliar to me and the possibilities of me winning the race was one to nil, I being the nil. The track had no light to guide us through whatsoever, making the moonlight and the headlights of our cars the only sources of light available to us, to help us see the road ahead when the race would commence.
We both drove towards our vehicles to the edge of the starting line, stopping a few inches away from the faded white line. Lee and I exchanged glances past our windows and I glared at him, whilst a mischievous smirk tugged at his lips as he revved his engine making the crowd go wild. I scoffed to myself and instead placed my attention at the road ahead of me, which I would shortly be burning rubber on.
I then suddenly heard somebody knock on my window. I rolled it down to find Daniel bent slightly, meeting me at eye level.
"Listen Zayn, the race is about fifty miles. After twenty miles or so, there will be sharp curve on the road which will be completely unexpected as it startled me, causing me to abruptly stop on the road. Lee seems to know this track really well. That's how he managed to win this race. And after every five miles, there is a streetlight. That should tell you when there'll be a sharp turn."
"Got it." I nodded. "A streetlight after every five miles and after twenty miles there's the sharp turn. Anything else?"
"Yeah, try to stay ahead of that fucker at all times and don't give him any chance to get ahead of you. Own the road like you owned Devil's Point. For that sharp turn, I would suggest that you do the "heel 'n' toe" downshift. But since you're better at drifting, do that and it should give you better momentum. Lee's Skyline may have more horsepower, but this baby right here," he paused, knocking the roof of his car. "Has better aerodynamics, which should be more than enough to make a good drift."
"Thanks, bro." I smiled widely at him.
"Good luck, man. Own the moment, own the road." he patted on my shoulder, before he stood up straight and walked away from me as I rolled the windows back up.
The girl who was flirting with me earlier, came wearing shorts and a tank top as she strode her way between the two cars with a checkered flag in her hand.
"Are you ready?" she asked, looking at Lee.
He nodded in reply.
"Are you ready?" she repeated, but this faced me.
I revved in response, gripping the steering wheel hard, with one hand. I then set the gear into first with my other. I was just waiting for her to drop the checkered flag any time now...
"3... 2...1!" she yelled and few seconds later dropped the flag as I released the clutch and pushed onto the gas pedal.
The speedometer made it's way to the right as the engine produced more torque and a loud noise ripped from it. I slid off the hand brake making the car jump forward, already taking the lead.

Glancing at the overhead mirror, I saw the reflection of Lee's car right behind me, gaining fast. I then set my attention towards the road ahead of me where I could see the finish line approaching me, which was merely a few meters away now.
