Chapter 2

Mia had decided to join the soccer club which I thought it was stupid because mom had to pay 100 dollars per month, and that is crazy, I mean why would you have to pay to play a game? Plus if Mia wins a trophy, she didn't actually win it, mom bought it.

On Mondays and Wednesdays, dad would take Mia to soccer practice, while I stayed home with mom. We never did  what we used to do. When I was smaller, we would cook together and stuff but over time I lost interest in that.

" Can I come in?" - My mom asked while knowing softly on the door.

It was on a Wednesday, and Mia was away with dad. I stood up and opened the door.

" Maya, can we talk?" - My mom asked while coming in my room.

" What is it?" – I asked mom.

" You will see." – She said while sitting on my bed.

" Ok"- I said in a nervous voice.

" Look, I know it has been hard for you, having Mia around and all, it is just that your dad and I thought that would be good for you." – My mom said in her soft voice.

Her voice was so soft that it made me think of cotton candy, But I quickly shaked my head, getting all of the nice soft thoughts out of my mind, because my mom was serious.

" We had this idea about year ago, when your dad and I went out to celebrate our aniversary . Your dad was driving me to Olive Garden, because he knew that it was my favorite place. While he was driving, we had to stop at a stoplight and that is when we saw from the orphanage window, Mia. She was just looking at the busy dirty road, and I felt sorry for her."—my mom said.

" So you only adopted her because you felt sorry for her?" – I asked.

I knew shouldn't have listened to my mom, she always felt sorry for everyone. If she keeps feeling sorry for everyone, we would end up having a million orphans in our house!

" No Maya, we adopted Mia because she needed a home." - My mom answered my question.

I looked outside the window, I could see dad's car pull over in the garage, mom also saw it, so she finished what she wanted to say.

" It took your dad and I , over a year to fill in all of the documents, and it also took us a lot of patience, we thought you would like it."- She said. But this time, mom's voice wasn't as soft as cotton candy, it was a sad voice, which reminded me of the time that Mufasa died in the movie Lion King.

After mom left my room, I thought about what she said, and it felt strange because I never thought about what she said. I Wasn't sure if I should go up to mom and say sorry, or maybe I should go up to Mia and say sorry, I was in doubt. And that was how I feel a sleep that night, with doubt of what I should do.

That night, I dream that I was in Mrs. Kapish class, and Mia was there too, we were both sitting in the same table, and I wasn't jealous of her, we were friends, it was just like if we were... sisters.

On the next day, I woke up with the sound of Mia getting ready for school, I opened my eyes and turned the other way. it was way too early for me to wake up. Even though I had turned the other way, I was still able to hear the zipping and unzipping of her pink backpack as she organized her notebook. Lazily I decided to get out of bed. I went to the bathroom and washed my face with the cold water. As I washed my face, I felt the water dripping from my chin, and somehow that reminded me of starting fresh. For now on, I was going to start fresh with my new sister.

After it was time to go, Mia and I made our way to the bus stop. And just like the other day we sat next to each other in the bus.

Mia told me a story of the time that she was almost bit by a Tarantula. Apparently, she was in the lunch room when this boy told her that there was a tarantula on her back. Mia told me that she thought that the boy was just joking around, but when adults began telling her not to move, she began to cry . I am not sure why I paid attention to the story, but it kept me busy for the entire bus ride.

When we got to school, we went in separate directions, and that was because we went to a different home room. I liked my home room teacher, because she would allow us to listen to music in our devices, and that is what I did pretty much every day.

When the bell rang, I stood up and put my Ipod away, I made my way too my locker because I had to get my science notebook, but unfortunately Meghan and her friends where blocking my way. I tried to go through the 5 girls, but one of them pushed me back, I fell to the ground and the girls laughed and walked away. After I was sure that  they were gone, I stood up and opened up my locker, I took my science notebook and went to class.
