My ears pricked in anticipation.
"Really?!"
Clover rolled her eyes
"Uh duh. Just lip at the latch on my stall okay?"
I nodded quickly then got to work.
Through clenched teeth, I asked
"So, how long have you been race'n?"
Clover shifted her weight around and sighed
"All my life I guess."
"Really?"
I heaved as I tugged on the lock.
"Yea, but hurry up! The mans coming!"
I took two steps back and this time gave it my all. The lock jiggled loose and I came tumbling down. As I regained my balance, Clover had already begun to lope in the opposite direction.
"HEY, WAIT FOR ME!"
I yelped in horror. Clover glanced behind her and quickened her pace. I grunted and pawed the ground, so it was a race she wanted? Just as I was about to take off, a sharp pain jolted through my left shoulder. I fell to the ground in shock and pain.
"Your nothing but trouble, aren't ya?"
Said the short man as he switched off his cattle prod. I quickly stood up but a few other men had thrown ropes around my neck. I tugged at the lines, but they only got tighter. Just as I was about to give up hope, I heard a man yell
"Hey! It's greenie!"
I glanced in the direction that the man was pointing in. That's when I saw Clover bucking and making a scene. I took that as an opportunity to make a run for it. My shoulder still hurt from when it was jabbed with a cattle prod, but I managed to escape in time. Clover nodded to me then we took off together.

After travelling for an hour or so, we still had not seen a single wisp of grass or the wildlife of the prairies. Come to think of it, me and Clover had barley said a word to each other! I cleared my throat and broke the silence
" hey, um, Clover?"
Clover didn't slow down her pace for a second, but managed to grumble
"What?"
I shied away a few steps but still spoke in soft words
" thanks for saving me back there, you didn't have to."
Clovers mouth moved, but her voice was carried out over the wind.
She galloped closer towards me until our shoulders bumped together.
"Oh it was nothing, forget about it."
She said as she looked in the opposite direction.
"What's wrong?"
I said worriedly.
"Sorry short chapter😬
Thanks so much for all of your support.
