Chapter 1: Test of Courage

It was the first day of our freshmen orientation, At last I’m a college student, I have been so excited to be walking on the University courts feeling more collegiate and mature. I went together with my friends to a beautiful school which is “St. Patrick’s University” the most prestigious school in our province I guess. By the way, I’m Ella Sy, and this is the start of an interesting year for me. Okay, so back to the freshmen orientation that is happening right now, I’m with my friends from high school who luckily attended school with me, what a “joy”, I’m not being sarcastic you know, just happy, truthfully happy. We headed to the gymnasium for the orientation, so once we were inside we started chatting. I mean “girl talk” since we all are girls.

“Hey Adriana!!! So how are you? So glad you could make it to college!!” I chuckled,

Adriana was my best friend since high school, she’s funny, hot and totally Mexican looking.

“I graduated with you right? I was supposed to go to college, had a hard time cheating just to pass those horrible teachers!” she replied back laughing.

We all laughed since it’s not the conversation that girls from a Science High School should be doing. We were all Star Sections which means we are in the top of our batch, which means we are smart kids. Well too smart to copy I guess.

“So guys, do you mind listening to the speaker? The orientation started you know?!”Tanya scowled. She was always the “goody-too-shoes in our circle, she looks American but don’t let her fool you she can speak “tagalog” fluently.

“Yes, Ma’am” Adriana and I both responded and we both chuckled in our seats.

It was a boring orientation, they just tell the rules and stuff, it’s all in the student handbook, we know how to read you know. The main part of this Freshmen Orientation was to finally choose our Freshmen Representative for the upcoming Freshmen night. Every College will be looking for two representatives, one male and one female. I was really hoping it could be Adriana but lucks not on us.

After choosing our representative we went on a tour at our school, we went to the library, covered court, clinic and soon back to gymnasium. When I was about to enter I saw this tall, cute guy, with big round brown eyes that melts my insides just a second when our eyes met. He has this arrogant smirk plastered on his lips when he saw me ogling on him, I was definitely checking him out. Then fingers snapped and I was back to earth again.

“Ella, Hey!! Still there? You saw a cute guy don’t you, so fast!!! Already??” Adriana groaned.

I just rolled my eyes at her. “You know she always have crushes wherever she go right?” Tanya stated a matter-of-factly. “Okay, so I do have crushes, it’s not like I sleep with them or go on a date with them? I just liked them from afar” I retorted.

“Always from a far, right! You are in college for Chickens sake, Gosh Ella, Woman up!!” Adriana protested. “Woman-up? Where did that come from?” I asked back hiding my bemusement to my friend’s outrage. “Okay!!! Will you two shut up?!” Tanya stopped us before we end up arguing.

“Since we are college students now, I guess we needed a little fun just to start heating things up!!, Maybe a Test of Courage?” Tanya suggested, she babbled about having to talk to our first crush in this University and taking the courage to ask them about their numbers and set out a date.

“What’s with this entire Test your talking about Tanya? I will lose this game, you know how I freak out when I’m in front of my crush right?” I was starting to freak out, what’s this entire Courage thing, and Tanya knows me better, I can’t do this.
