Chapter 2. Blood Kiss.
Schuyler's POV
Cathreen wasn't happy about the fact that it was dinner. Then again, I wasn't happy about it either. Human food smelled disgusting and tasted just as bad. I practically had to keep myself from scowling in disgust. I couldn't understand how humans could eat it, but of course, it was made for them; just as they were made for us vampires. My sister didn't like it when I looked down on humans, but I couldn't understand why she thought that. Sure, we had all been humans before, but now we were vampires. Do humans feel sorry for the animals they eat? Do they treat the animals they eat as equals? No, they don't, so why should I? I slightly shook my head, making my bluish-black hair fly in different directions. Great. I had just fixed it, too. With a sigh, I began to walk out of the room, but Cathreen stopped me with a hand on my wrist.
"What is it, Cath?" I snapped as I turned around.
"Do we really have to go and eat dinner? I don't want to." She pleaded with big eyes.
"If we're going to be here at the camp, we have to act like normal humans. Well, we don't have to eat the food. As long as it looks like we eat it, no one should suspect anything. Relax and follow me, now. I memorized their map and our schedule from their website." I told my annoying sister and walked out of the room.
Hesitantly, Cathreen followed. She really hated the smell of human food. I could understand her, but she had to man up and take one for the metaphorical team. I hadn't even wanted to go here, but as she had insisted, I had put my own wishes aside and done as she told me. Why couldn't she do the same for me? I sighed and pulled out of my negative thoughts. She wasn't selfish at all. Many times, she had supported me and done things that she disliked. I guess it was my turn to do something for her. I truly loved my sister, but sometimes... She was just too naive and caring. Well, I guessed that it was a part of her charm. Laughing softly, I effortlessly navigated the old corridors of the castle. It was a very beautiful castle, with its tan brick walls and intricate glass windows. On the walls, paintings of long forgotten landscapes hung, portals to the past. The beauty if the ancient castle was undeniable, tough not many people seemed to notice it. That was a flaw of humans, they just looked at the world, they didn't truly see it. As I walked past the teenagers who were oblivious to the magnificence of the very halls they were walking through, I thought about how lucky they were that I had fed that morning. If not, then I might have slipped and killed some of them... No, not really, my self control was better than that, but I would've wanted to. Yet again, I sighed, and focused on guiding my younger sister through the halls that contained so much ignored beauty and history.
The stench hit my nose far before we even reached the dining room. From what faint memory I still had of human food, I deducted that they were serving pancakes with some kind of condiment. As the smell of human food was made extremely revolting when you turned into a vampire, it was near impossible to identify what kind of human food you were smelling anymore. Well, without seeing it, of course. When Cathreen and I entered the dining room, the stench got even stronger. In the corner of my eye, I could see Cathreen frowning. She hated the smell of human food just as much as any other vampire.
"Let's go eat. I'm certain that it'll be delicious." I sarcastically said, not looking forward to having human food near me.
"Yeah, delicious." Cathreen replied with equal sarcasm.
We laughed a bit before reluctantly entering the line to get food. My stomach turned as I got closer to the pancakes, which were served with raspberry jam and cream.
I'd rather drink blood from a pig than have that near my mouth, I thought to myself.
Just after thinking that, I regretted it. At least I wouldn't have to eat the pancakes, but I'd actually have to drink the pig's blood. Yuck. Human blood is the only thing we vampires like to consume, unlike those vampires from TV. It was ridiculous just to think the thought of drinking animal blood, but actually drinking it... No. It made us feel sick and even more thirsty than before. Slightly shaking my head, I unwillingly put three pancakes on my plate and drenched them in jam and cream. Looking down at my plate, I felt sick. It didn't even look appetizing. I looked back at Cathreen, who had an equally disgusted expression on her face. I nodded my head in the direction of an empty table away from the other humans. She followed me to the table and sat down directly across from me. We both looked at our plates with expressions of revulsion.
