The eleven hour fight to Switzerland passed in a blur. Brad was just too drained both physically and emotionally to do much more than pass into a deep sleep once he found his seat on the over crowed plane. Much to his surprise getting to the airport had been easy. There were hardly any other cars on the road and he made it with enough time to spare to spend some of Martha’s cash on something hot to eat.

He shuffled through customs without a problem and now stood in Rolle, Switzerland. Crisp clean air filled his lungs and for the first time he could remember he was genuinely happy to be alive. It was a new era in his life and he was going to enjoy it.

The school shuttle was already outside and few other students were on it. Brad found a seat away from the other kids and waited patiently. Apparently he was the last one expected today. Because a woman at the front of the bus stood up and spoke to the students.

“My name is Ms. Epple. I am one of the counselors at Rosey. I’m passing out your schedules now.” She handed a stack of papers to one of the students at the front. “The eight of you will be classmates. Most of you come from either royalty or children of billionaires. Rest assured that the life style you are accustomed to willfully be met at Rosey. The teachers and maids will tidy your rooms for you and a twenty-four hour kitchen is available if you shall need anything at any time. All you have to do is focus on your studies. “

Brad tuned out the counselor. He knew most of what she was talking about didn’t apply to him anyhow. Instead he focused on his schedule. His was the only one in a plain folder with his name written on the front. Probably due to the extra criteria he had to achieve.

5am-7:30 am: Report to housekeeping. (F building)

8:30am-9:15am: Fencing class. (Gym)

9:30am-10:15: Advance Trigonometry. (M1)

10:30am-11:15am: Introduction to astronomy. (S3)

11:15am-1200pm: Lunch Break

1215pm-1pm: Molecular biology. (S12)

1pm-2pm: Introduction to information science (S6)

2pm-5pm: Report to grounds keeper. (Near the wharf)

6pm-8pm: Kitchen duty.

“The letter and number in brackets are the building and room number respectively,” Ms. Epple explained. “When we have arrived you will be shown to your rooms. If you had things shipped from home they will be waiting for you in your room. If you forgotten anything the on campus store has anything you could want. After you have your room assignment the rest of the weekend is yours to explore the grounds. Rosey is a great home. Welcome to the family.”

Brad wasn’t sure how long Ms. Epple had been talking but as she finished her sentence the shuttle came to a stop. The students got off the bus and made their way into the building directly in front of them. Before Brad could join them Ms. Epple placed a hand on his shoulder and motioned for him to follow her.

“Hello Brad, it’s so nice to meet you,” Ms. Epple said.  “Because of your extra duties we have other accommodations for you”

Of course they do. Wouldn’t want me living with the royalty after all. Brad thought. He wasn’t angry about it. He was just happy to be here. “Thank you ma’am,” he said aloud.

“Now Brad I feel it’s necessary to further explain the importance of your role here. You are the first student every to attain a scholarship here. I and others have worked very hard for such scholarships and you are the beta test as it were. Please don’t waste your opportunity here.”

“I’ll work very hard to be worthy of the chance,” Brad said keeping his head down.

“Good. These are the maid quarters. Because this is the first place you report in the morning we arrange a room here so you can get the max amount of sleep,” Ms. Epple said with a cheerful smile.
